This is hyperbole. If Nike were literally using slaves, why would they pay them anything? Presumably the opportunity to work or $2/day was considered an improvement over the alternative(s) for these children; they must need the money more than (wealthy) N. Americans do.

Paying a subsistence wage has its advantages over maintaining slaves.

As far as Musk goes, he and his political buddies have people of modest means subsidizing the toys of rich people.
Seems to me that’s an example of crony crapitalism and it’s help make Elon filthy rich so it’s worked out great for him, not so good for the people of modest means. Tesla would have been out of business long ago without the subsidies and Elon has continually lied about Tesla’s financial feasibility to keep his con going as long as possible. And the politicians keep feeding him subsidies. Again, crony capitalism at its best. Great for him and his political buddies but a con job for everyone else.

Yup. Last spring I heard a talk McAdams gave. Not sure how old the talk was at the time I heard it on the Internet. USA overproduces liquid milk in a massive amount , and prices are 40% lower here for out farmers than those in Canada . Also Canada under NAFTA maintains some protections for its broadcast industry , including the 10% local content law , that requires that a minimum of 10% of tv shows be made in Canada or staring predominantly Canadian actors . Big Al, I have been contemplating much of what has been discussed on your site lately about disappointment of how the Catholic Church has addressed the issue. It has sparked in me a desire to communicate something I hope will be of value and something I hold dear.
I truly believe that all people are children of heavenly parents and have been sent to Earth to have a mortal experience as part of our eternal learning and growth. In order for this to take place, there had to be a fall from the Garden of Eden, thus placing us in a mortal state to act or be acted upon. Then there had to be an infinite atonement to repair the damage of the fall, giving all of Heavenly Father’s children a path back to their heavenly home if hey choose to follow it. This was the mission of Jesus Christ in his role as Savior and Redeemer.
The purpose of this mortal life was for us to discover what we are made of, to be tried and tested to see which spirit we would list to obey, to be inclined towards evil or that which is good, for our Heavenly Father has given his children their agency and freedom to choose. He has also stated in scripture that “All men are instructed sufficiently” to know good from evil.
The purpose of the church, established by the Savior, was to provide a vehicle to assist Heavenly Father’s children in our sojourn on Earth, to accomplish His purposes in providing us this grand education, experience and opportunity to become what we are willing to become.
As prophesied in the new testament, Paul taught in his 2nd epistle to the Thessalonians about the apostasy that would enter the early church and the later restoration that would come in latter days by stating “Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day (restoration on the church) shall not come, except there come a falling away first…”
This theme was stated in several of the epistles, warning those members of the coming demise of the church. Over time the apostles were killed and the church succumbed to the apostasy prophesied by Paul and others. This then led to there being several churches all interpreting the scriptures differently and going in different directions from that which the Savior established.
I have come to know that the Church of Jesus Christ has been restored again on the Earth as prophesied, with Apostles and Prophets. The Lord’s church, or vehicle, is again upon the earth to help us come to know things as they really were, as they really are, and as they will be in the future. Our Heavenly Father has again provided the vehicle to assist us in our eternal progression. The heavens are again opened and the Lord is providing the assistance we need, as the winding up scenes unfold prior to the Savior’s second coming and eventual millennial reign.
These are things I know to be true and I hope that we will all turn our hearts to the teachings and counsel of the Savior, to be inclined to that which is good and to view each other as God sees our potential and as we truly are, literal brothers and sisters all on this amazing journey and eternal progression.
Let me again express appreciation for your web site Al, and for the way in which you add to the good of us all and how you articulate so many things of value and contemplation.
