Re. dollar valuation: What makes anybody think free market principles apply to trade anymore? It hasn’t applied for years in most countries.

    AJ says:

Was listening to the pre-election podcast of Deep State Radio (deepstateradionetwork.com) yesterday but Democrats do face an interesting conundrum. Republicans keep the House and it is Trump unbound, Democrats win and the resulting paralysis (Trump won’t reach out of course) with an economic downturn when the irresponsible tax cuts run out will virtually guarantee his reelection.

    • On November 3, 2018 at 5:56 am,
      CFS says:

AJ, do you really believe the US is under-taxed or taxed correctly?
What level of taxation do you think would be correct as a percentage of GDP?

      • On November 3, 2018 at 6:12 am,
        CFS says:

US taxes its citizens, at the federal level, about 30% more than China, 20% more than in India.
Germany and most European countries tax at a higher rate, but they have medical care, welfare and housing programs, which the US does not have.

        • On November 3, 2018 at 10:12 am,

Just remember, no matter how high taxes are they are never high enough…

            Al Korelin says:

Of course Eddy, Does any individual ever think that he or she has enough money. I often ask myself that question and, honestly speaking it is difficult to ever feel content in that area.

        • On November 3, 2018 at 11:58 am,
          Al Korelin says:

As you bring out very effectively in your comment, the taxation system in the U.S. is very inefficient. I ,ask you to consider the quality of life in China and India as compared to America, Germany the other European countries and Canada. That throws a bit of a different light on the question.

      • On November 3, 2018 at 10:11 am,

        Al Korelin says:

i would like to weigh in on this one, CFS.

It is not a question of under or over taxed it is the much bigger question of over-spending.

    • On November 3, 2018 at 11:51 am,
      Al Korelin says:

That is an interesting point which I happen to agree with.

I had never listened to “Deep State Radio” and I now will become more familiar with it and reach out to it as perhaps we can accomplish more by supporting eachother.

  4. On November 3, 2018 at 5:51 am,
    CFS says:

Much of the world so hates the US (rightly or wrongly) that a change in price, via dropping the dollar, would not alter trade very much. Much trade occurs because there is no alternative but to buy US product. e.g. in oil, food, high technology, software.
Think about UN voting…..the US has problems getting any vote in favor of a US position without leaning on some countries.

    • On November 3, 2018 at 12:06 pm,
      Al Korelin says:

I never focused on the issue of other nations hating the U.S., but, you know, come to think about it that seems to be true unless people want something from us without working for it as most Americans do. Consider illegal immigration.

  5. On November 3, 2018 at 6:31 am,
    CFS says:

On the other hand, John Mauldin writes:
“Our current prosperity is built on an explosion of debt; it is therefore unsustainable. The US added roughly $1.3 trillion of GDP in the fiscal year that ended in September but also added $1.271 trillion of debt. Interest rates, while still running well below real-world inflation, are rising in a heavily leveraged economy. The $1.271 trillion increase in federal debt was nearly $500 billion or 39% higher than the official annual deficit of only $779 billion, which means that politicians are keeping significant amounts of debt off-balance sheet. I don’t know who they think they’re fooling, but they aren’t going to be able to keep this con game running much longer. Over the past five years, the official deficit was reported as $2.977 trillion whereas the federal deficit grew by $4.777 trillion, meaning that 38% of the actual shortfall was hidden by our feckless leaders. And all of these figures do not include trillions of more dollars of off-balance sheet entitlement obligations promised by the government to future retirees and other voters.”

Further , the Current, borrowing will not be paid by the current generation, ….
the current generation, is just merely, passing the “loan” onto the next generation….
Some people believe the debt always gets paid…….by the lender or borrower(should be current borrower)……merely , shifting the obligation to the unborn, is not a repayment of one’s debt……….

      • On November 3, 2018 at 11:53 am,
        Ebolan says:

His first clue ought to be the numbers from his lying piece of shiite gooberment, such as the bogus inflation numbers from the Bureau of Liar Statistics.

Today I noticed in the store orange juice now comes in 52 oz containers! First it was a half gallon like milk. Then they shaved it down to 59 oz and now 52 oz. Of course, they didn’t shave the price. In fact, it’s more. You pay more and get less. The incredible shrinking packaging…they think no one will notice.

It has been most interesting to be visited by numerous politicians seeking my vote.
By feigning lack of knowledge on various issues, I was able to elucidate one common factor between the politicians, regardless of party…….they are surprisingly ignorant.

Perhaps I read and retain too much data in memory, but there is something wrong about a political system that allows anyone of sufficient age to run for office, and requires no test of intelligence, ability or honesty.

Our Founding Fathers seem to have had much greater knowledge and intelligence than current politicians. Why is the US education system failing so badly?
Modern living is so much easier than 200 years ago, but . . . , ?????

No visiting person seems proud of his party affiliation enough to declare it openly up front.
Look at the signs displayed as you travel around. They are red, white and blue and rarely have a mention of party.

I do not anthropomorphise God, but even if I did, that above statement is pure B.S. unless it caused my character and worth to fellow man to improve.
Since I believe it has not, then your “compassionate Father God” made a mistake. i.e. is fallible.
By what possible logic is your God male?
If he was, indeed, compassionate, then he would have stopped the cancer from growing in my brain from the start.

Have you ever wondered why Democrats are paranoid over Planned Parenthood?
You probably thought it was altruistic considerations of mothers-to-be health and safety….

Or is it more corrupt self interest?

Planned Parenthood, mostly tax-payer funded, makes political contributions in the tens of millions of dollars. Surprise, surprise back to the Democratic Party.
(Isn’t this a neat trick to get tax-payers to involuntarily fund a political party?)

And you think it is not possible to find areas where government spending could be cut?

The polls are not really reliable as has been the track record. The press is so hateful and is out to destroy the Republican Party that many people really do remain in the closet about who they really support. This is a sad state of affairs that people are actually afraid to even display a TRUMP sticker because of threats and violence, which are escalating. When a police officer rams a car intentionally simply because they had a TRUMP sticker, this is a warning sign of what is really coming from here into 2021.

Ironically, a Democratic win in the House will be taken as EXTREMELY bearish for the economic future of not just the United States, but the entire world. Nevertheless, that may actually end up being just another reason capital flees the bonds and moves with greater intensity into private assets. The worse it may appear, the more bullish it may be for the capital shift.

The documents are thought to contain information regarding then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s involvement, as well as the Obama administration’s knowledge of the controversial deal.”

“The existence of the documents became known after a recent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) release of related material contained an entry entitled “Uranium One Transaction.” The publicly available portion includes benign material, such as public letters from members of Congress who demanded information on the Uranium One approval. ”

I certainly do not agree with everything….especially criminals , who plunder the treasury and assets of the USA..

Always glad to share ideas Big Al. It is interesting how this particular transaction highlights the lunacy and transgressions of the deep state, and crony capitalism, and how rare it is to stop things as they are happening, but to reflect back on them years later and realize what a mess we are left with. Looking forward to better solutions and more awareness around similar issues moving into the future.

Speaking of the rarity of stopping things while they are happening, unfortunately that is very rare!

Gotta hand it to Jordan Peterson for sitting down with a disdainful intellectual pygmy for over 90 minutes:

I wish there were more thinkers like Jordan Peterson questioning the accepted narrative and delusions of the masses. He’s always worth listening to, and I like when he and Ben Shapiro get together during interviews.

I think JP does so to educate the people that are most opposed to his viewpoint. If one is trying to change minds, what better way than to engage those who have more-or-less bought into the neo-marxist ideologies. I think is is fantastic…if you watch some of the dialogues he has had with students on college campuses makes one lament at how far this generation has devolved and slumbers in some of the BS being promulgated. JP knocks the ball out of the park almost everytime. Take a look at his talk to Harvard students…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqi0jHn_7-I&t=12s

Western civilization is being destroyed between the hammer of Zionism and the anvil of Marxism. Or is that vice versa? Either way they both come from the same cult/mafia.

They (Zionism and Marxism) do have many levels of correlation and I agree that JP steers clear of that. A most pernicious aspect of both is that adherents normally really believe they or their movement is the savior for the people…until so many of the people being “saved” are murdered for “greater good.” Seems to happen over and over again.

What I said notwithstanding, I agree that what he does, as far as it goes, is great. It’s not easy to try to dialogue with and contradict the views of fanatics.

You are correct, GH, but the hammer IS the anvil.
JP is not clear on a lot of things including economics or even what the Right really is (as opposed to what we’re told it is by the leftists who run everything).
