China remembers the opium war in which Great Britain (with the US) set back China’s development and power for centuries.

RP’s run for president was used to educate as many people as possible since that is the only path to lasting and positive change — a bloodless revolution.
Tyrants know that they must capture the minds and of the people in order to rule effectively and completely. That’s what Hollywood and the MSM (including FOX!) is for. Ruling by force is an illusion made possible by the ignorance of the masses.

    • On December 8, 2018 at 9:55 am,
      GH says:

I wonder how many would go home if there were no benefits and no affirmative action. A lot, my experience suggests. Where I live, most who go abroad do so to work, get some capital together, and return home.

Here in South America where I live I recently had a conversation with some acquaintances that I quite like. Much of their family lives in New York City. I told them I was thinking of returning to the US to work for a while, and they assumed, “But you receive a payment from the US government, don’t you?” “No,” I responded, a bit amazed, “I’m young, I have to work if I want to eat.” They’re considering sending their youngest to live with the relatives in NYC while he’s still young enough, 16. I assume that has to do with rules of chain migration.

Can’t blame people for playing the rules and by the rules. Time to change them.

      • On December 8, 2018 at 10:54 am,

I have a beef not only with illegal immigration, but also with legal immigration as currently constituted.

Not a beef with the immigrants themselves, but with the effects on the US and the motives of those who have enabled it. It appears to be a combination of demographic warfare and vote buying, for the purpose of destroying the American dream of Liberty.

Younger, simpler, such issues were not a focus.

With an environmental science career (hard data end), I’ve had lots of left leaning friends. Well-meaning people hooked by school indoctrination and landed in echo chambers. Many of these friendships likely would not survive any serious catch-up time.

This friend’s unique life history offers compelling reasons for bias rendering her vulnerable to being hooked. It’s an interesting and worthwhile challenge to see if such folks may be reached, and friends merit loyalty until they cross a line.

Gh, Matthew, It also says something about the anglo-Saxon work ethic, compared with Hispanic-Latino or Southern versus Northern Europe.

I wonder what that implies for the future of the world as it becomes a melting pot.
Or will it be forever a salad bowl?

    • On December 8, 2018 at 4:38 pm,
      Big Al says:

The outcome would either be complete violence or a complete take over of that particular segment of the population. What do you think, b?

    • On December 8, 2018 at 6:35 pm,
      GH says:

      Very true, CFS.

I certainly know anglo-saxon parasites. But, as a very well informed Latino friend explained to me, the ‘protestant work ethic’ is unknown here. Given the history, anyone of means had servants, and doing work became something to be looked down upon and avoided.

Of course, many people here work very hard, and there are many ethnicities with their differences. But, still, there does seem to be a general difference in attitude.

‘Melting pot’ strikes me as a rather pernicious piece of propaganda. I suppose melting happens, but not on a time scale that’s relevant to the individual. Centuries, rather than generations, if at all. Depending, of course, on the feed stocks.

      • On December 9, 2018 at 9:54 am,
        CFS says:

GH, I fear the Anglo part of the Anglo-Saxon work ethic is now becoming heavily diluted.
There is still, I believe, a good Germanic part, even though that may now be as much in Switzerland as in Austria and Germany.

Big Al, I beg to disagree. The people spoke in November 2016, but it was more in disgust and distrust of Hillary…..there was little organization of Conservatives. The tea-party movement had died out.
The media is still 90% pro-left wing.

Now we are beginning to see an organized opposition to corruption.
(Not from the Republican Party, which is probably as corrupt as Democrat, but from ground roots. ) Unfortunately the polling system favors (essentially mandates) a two-party system, and only external pressure from outside the two-party system will cause the parties to reform.

The moment the president declares a “national emergency”—a decision that is entirely within his discretion—he is able to set aside many of the legal limits on his authority.

What President Trump Could Do If He Declares a State of Emergency……????

It would be nice to think that America is protected from the worst excesses of Trump’s impulses by its democratic laws and institutions. After all, Trump can do only so much without bumping up against the limits set by the Constitution and Congress and enforced by the courts. Those who see Trump as a threat to democracy comfort themselves with the belief that these limits will hold him in check.
Unknown to most Americans, a parallel legal regime allows the president to sidestep many of the constraints that normally apply. The moment the president declares a “national emergency”—a decision that is entirely within his discretion—more than 100 special provisions become available to him. While many of these tee up reasonable responses to genuine emergencies, some appear dangerously suited to a leader bent on amassing or retaining power. For instance, the president can, with the flick of his pen, activate laws allowing him to shut down many kinds of electronic communications inside the United States or freeze Americans’ bank accounts.
Other powers are available even without a declaration of emergency, including laws that allow the president to deploy troops inside the country to subdue domestic unrest.

This edifice of extraordinary powers has historically rested on the assumption that the president will act in the country’s best interest when using them. With a handful of noteworthy exceptions, this assumption has held up.

Youtube has deleted the video of the French chanting “Trump!” If Trump has to leave office he can become President of France and make France great again.

    Here’s a must-read I found at 321 gold:
“It is widely understood by economists of most theoretical persuasions that trade tariffs are a bad idea, but President Trump has laid out his stall. The political class, prodded usually by the vested interests of crony capitalists, always fall for trade protectionism. President Trump’s tariff war is just the latest example that coincidently stretches back to the introduction of central banks.”

Macleod is right, through and through and note that tariffs and the crony “capitalists” who support them are part of the left. When the masses are forced to foot the bill for the benefit of a politically connected few, you have collectivism.

America’s most prominent and powerful corporations are the result of cronyism, not free market capitalism. Why do you think they overwhelmingly supported leftist candidates even when Ron Paul was a choice? The archaic belief that big business and Wall Street are right wing is, and always has been, completely wrong.
