Jerry, RP was and still is the most decent human being to ever become a politician in the U.S. — by a very wide margin. His knowledge is vast and his approach to righting the ship of state is sound.

RP figured out long ago that there’s no such thing as a necessary evil. The masses are way behind on that one and probably always will be.
RP’s run for president was used to educate as many people as possible since that is the only path to lasting and positive change — a bloodless revolution.

I wonder how many would go home if there were no benefits and no affirmative action. A lot, my experience suggests. Where I live, most who go abroad do so to work, get some capital together, and return home.
Here in South America where I live I recently had a conversation with some acquaintances that I quite like. Much of their family lives in New York City. I told them I was thinking of returning to the US to work for a while, and they assumed, “But you receive a payment from the US government, don’t you?” “No,” I responded, a bit amazed, “I’m young, I have to work if I want to eat.” They’re considering sending their youngest to live with the relatives in NYC while he’s still young enough, 16. I assume that has to do with rules of chain migration.

Younger, simpler, such issues were not a focus.
With an environmental science career (hard data end), I’ve had lots of left leaning friends. Well-meaning people hooked by school indoctrination and landed in echo chambers. Many of these friendships likely would not survive any serious catch-up time.
This friend’s unique life history offers compelling reasons for bias rendering her vulnerable to being hooked. It’s an interesting and worthwhile challenge to see if such folks may be reached, and friends merit loyalty until they cross a line.

I certainly know anglo-saxon parasites. But, as a very well informed Latino friend explained to me, the ‘protestant work ethic’ is unknown here. Given the history, anyone of means had servants, and doing work became something to be looked down upon and avoided.
Of course, many people here work very hard, and there are many ethnicities with their differences. But, still, there does seem to be a general difference in attitude.
‘Melting pot’ strikes me as a rather pernicious piece of propaganda. I suppose melting happens, but not on a time scale that’s relevant to the individual. Centuries, rather than generations, if at all. Depending, of course, on the feed stocks.
GH, I fear the Anglo part of the Anglo-Saxon work ethic is now becoming heavily diluted.
There is still, I believe, a good Germanic part, even though that may now be as much in Switzerland as in Austria and Germany.
