Thoughts On The Fed Statement And Where To Invest

Cory
March 21, 2019

Chris Temple kicks off today with his thoughts on the dovish Fed pause and statement. We also discuss the market reaction with bonds and gold rising and the USD falling. There’s no telling for certain exactly what has the Fed so scared but they it sure seems we can forget about a rate hike this year.

    I guess I’m a no one!

“No one expected them to remove 2 interest rate hikes off the dot plot”

How many months have I been posting in this forum that the Fed cannot raise rates. They are following the monetary policy of Japan.

Further, the Fed will print money when borrowing capability runs out……until the world economic collapse. Pretend and extend….until doom.

      Hah! No, you’re a bigwig!

They are following the monetary policy of Japan……………DITTO…..100%

All the central banks are on the same sheet of paper…..printing is all they have….kind of a big joke,…anyone going and looking how they were created would know that….

The Trouble with The Federal Reserve is that it is an FFB, or Fake Federal Bank run by flakes. DT

DITTO……..anyone on here that doubts that has to be an idiot…..

The Fed is not run by flakes. It is run by corrupt, politically-controlled leeches, getting rich off society. Unnessary, but for the fact that many politicians are even more corrupt and self-serving.

          Mar 21, 2019 21:55 AM

And the ignorant masses make it all possible. Most even think a (Marxist) central bank is necessary.

            Mar 21, 2019 21:35 AM

+1 We need another Andrew Jackson to abolish the fed and fiat paper money.

Ditto on A Jackson…..I bet most people do not even know what he did and when he did it…jmo

Don’t hold back CFS. The criminal bankers don’t rise to the level of corrupt. The Regulators are enabling them and deserve equal condemnation.

Most central banks are in collusion with each other, because that is the best way to prevent currency exchange rates dramatically changing.
They take it in turns to create money.

Pence…wasn’t he governor of Indiana??? So you had to live under his rule??? That would make me very pensive.

        Mar 21, 2019 21:15 AM

Pence’s parents lived about 100 yards from me in Indiana, when I first lived there.
Mike was fairly conservative in outlook, but became less so over the years, as with all politicians they bend as necessary to get re-elected. Few rise to Fovernor or President without owing a lot of favors, which become due later. (Trump being a substantial exception to that rule, thankfully.)

          Mar 21, 2019 21:21 AM

You, lived in Indiana, too? I’m confused…I thought Jerry lived in Indiana and you lived in Commiefornia…

Yes, you are right. And of course that goes all the way down to the local level. Most people I know who run for office are beholden to special interests in some way before they even run.

I lived in Indiana from the early ’70s, plus living, as the mood took me, simultaneously in the UK, for the last 25 years with also California for the last decade plus.
I love CA weather, hate the taxes, and was paying Indiana and UK taxes until recently.
Knowing the weather likely to happen in Indiana, I finally shifted out just a couple of years ago. I was thinking of splitting my time between CA and New Zealand/Australia, But Australia (Gold Coast) is just too hot and New Zealand deteriorating too fast into multicultural socialism.

          Mar 21, 2019 21:40 AM

I lived in Bloomington, IN for 3 happy years while in grad school at IU. What a gorgeous campus, but I could not take the cold winters and moved back to the republic of Texas.

            Mar 21, 2019 21:13 AM

Ditto on the campus……Only way you can survive Indiana , have a condo somewhere else.

        Mar 21, 2019 21:17 AM

EBO…….I still live in Indiana ….The Govn. Mansion is in Indianapolis…
The last time Pence lived in town,…..they had signs all over his neigborhood…..
        saying ….PENCE MUST GO…….

BTW….did you listen and read….the post about PENCE and Ryan…..putting a hit job out on Trump….

          Mar 21, 2019 21:27 PM

I am sorry. I missed that one. Wonder what Pence will do after he’s done being VP. I’m sure he’s got lots of chips to cash in.

    Mar 21, 2019 21:45 AM

There was a hue and cry over Charles Ponzi of Boston’s bogus get rich quick schemes, but Alan Greenspan of New York refined corruption. He did what Ponzi could never do and that is destroy the World economy with money printing and zero interest rates. Ponzi got the slammer but Greenspan will get to live out his days catching goldfish with a fishing pole in his backyard pool at Boca Raton, Florida. LOL! DT

The only thing not mentioned about that discussion of Brexit is that once Brexit happens, there is a good chance the EU collapses, Greece, portugal will follow the UK out and the EU crumbles into a much smaller union.
For that reason the “British-hating” French may suddenly go back to agreeing with Germany that British should be try to kept in the EU.
Sooner or later the Conservative Party will dump the May, as leader.

Alas, there is no one obvious to take her place; not even Boris with his new spring hair cut.

While I believe the long-term low in interest rates is in, one interpretation of the medium term is that it looks like we’re heading into a multi-annual cycle low, suggesting the tendency into 2020 will be downward.

Eyeballing the cycle I’m talking about, 4 years seems the most common, but it’s highly variable and sometimes seems to stretch 6 years or longer…

    https://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=%24TNX&p=W&st=1960-03-13&id=p85524756534

On the other hand, if you draw in the main long-term down trend channel, it has broken out of the upper rail of that channel, and could just be backtesting that breakout now. That’s a major development favoring higher rates that could start the snowball rolling, or at least counter balance the cyclical undertow. That might suggest a more sideways to sideways down tendency in rates.

Bottom line, a reasonable technical/cyclical case can also be made for a lower tendency in rates for a while.

      Mar 21, 2019 21:39 AM

I think you can forget the cycle on interest rates……..in the past is one thing , if everything had stayed normal……BUT, ….we never had QE or ZIRP. in the equation so,..the ball game has been scammed, and everything is different and using old cycle theory is out the window………JMO

The cops……should know if the citizen does not pay his taxes….there is no pension…
remember in Rome….in the final days….No taxes, no funds, no job, everyone go home..

        Mar 21, 2019 21:14 PM

The pensions definitely come first. They let the roads and everything else fall apart in an attempt to fund the pensions. They are taking it out of the hides of the taxpayer.

        Mar 21, 2019 21:13 PM

We got an army of cops and fire who are in their early 50s and want their annual 6 figure plus medical/dental/vision coverage NOW. It’s what their unions and the politicians told them they’d get. And their unions paid good money to buy off all those politicians all these years.

          Mar 21, 2019 21:22 PM

And try to see how well it goes over when you tell a cop he’s got to take a haircut on his yearly 6 figure pension….they get quite angry I can tell you from experience.

I believe the Taylor Professor misdefines “Liberalism”, in that he does not mention ethics, moral values, etc.
Society cannot last long without a code of laws, moral values, ethics, or whatever you want to call it/them.
The ten commandments or something similar have defined a basis for moral behavior as long as civil society has been around. Judaism took its set of values from Egypt, which based it valies on Sumer. Christianity essentially evolved out of a Romanized version of Judaism.
To discuss political leanings without also including ethical standards or moral values makes little sense.
Unfortunately modern politics seems to be corrupting moral values as “multiculturalism and “political correctness”replaces commonsense.

      Mar 21, 2019 21:19 PM

I think Taylor’s Professor is lost in his thoughts…….the scriptures in the schools have been tainted , ….the spirit can not be taught…..for it is foolishness to the so, called educated.
1 Corinthians 1:27 King James Version (KJV)
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty

Note: I did not say Israel has a “legal” right to occupy the Golan Heights……That most certainly is debatable.
I am saying that they have a practical right, however, to do so. (out of defense considerations), as long as factions/countries deny their (Israel’s) right to existence.
