If you depend on Politicians or even attorneys for moral values, I believe you would be making a great mistake. There is something about law schools that tends to destroy belief in absolute truth as a virtue.
How would it be possible for an attorney to defend a guilty person otherwise?
One learns the truth, or at least the relative truth, by reading as much as possible, learning as much as possible. No one can ever obtain total knowledge, perhaps that is what distinguishes man from God, but good judgement is always dependent on maximizing knowledge.
