Lest we forget, this day of infamy is remembered.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:09 AM

I was certainly remembering what happened.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:07 AM

Are you referring to the attack on Pearl Harbor or the birth of Noam Chomsky?
Both make Dec. 7th a date that will live in infamy.

It took a while, but I eventually found someone born on Dec. 7, older than myself…….Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
And now my senility has allowed me to forget the brilliant quip with which I was going to reply.
        Have a nice day….

Jim will be discussing that on Monday. I will try to also comment, but our destination is usually way out of internet range as we will be on Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands. (When you can only get away for a couple of days at a time you “get while the getting is good!)

For all politicians, we should insist on a statement of net worth before and after holding office, demand a full accounting for the difference.
How many politicians become multi-millionaires after holding office for as little as 6 years. e.g. Obama.

The U.S.A. has, WITHOUT DOUBT, the most healing medical system in the world. Never forget that, despite the problems of cost and over-charging.

Of course, there are a myriad of problems, but don’t forget most of the advances in drugs and medical technology ARE made in America, not in the bigger economy of Europe.

      “Cheaters Always Win”

      Do they ?
As a person who has lived most of his life in America, but also several years in England and in Germany, I must say there is a difference, both among nationalities and over time.
I believe that eventually truth does come out.
Perhaps the biggest difference I have noticed over time is the decrease in the concept of honor. Maybe over the years I have read too many Victorian novels, but I do believe that long ago many people would give their word and honor that word, even at the cost of their lives. Today, maybe not so much.

With regard to President Trump and his lack of civility, Frankly I don’t give a damn about that. I consider two things: He was raised and lived in New York. Many New Yorkers are, indeed, But that’s the norm……I do not expect Trump to be different.
Secondly, I consider how he is treated by the media. How would you feel, if your actions are distorted not just once in a while, but most of the time ?
Trump is direct. He tells the truth, as he sees it, clearly and directly; he is obviously not a person who believe in political correctness.
However, when dealing with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, perhaps the direct approach is least misunderstood; with least mistakes possible.
If Trump said HRC is a crook who should be in jail, impolite though it may be, do you really believe he spoke a lie or was not telling HRC how he actually felt about her ?

        oops

        Many New Yorkers are RUDE…..

        Dec 07, 2019 07:17 AM

Gaming the system is a time honored tradition in America.

        Dec 07, 2019 07:13 AM

Trump is more much honest and honorable than Woodrow Wilson, FDR, LBJ, Bill and Hillary,Obama, Warren, and Biden.

        Dec 07, 2019 07:55 AM

Fair enough CFS, I think that he did speak the truth.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:23 AM

The method of treating symptoms and diseases with drugs has been around for as long as I have! I agree with you that lifestyle alterations is perhaps a much more beneficial approach.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:25 AM

I have to assume that “rigged medical system” here is defined as as system that “bows to the drug companies” You bet Larry and that too has been going on for a long time. As is said :”money talks and bs walks”!

    Dec 07, 2019 07:30 AM

37th on planet in infant survival rate…..costs 5 to 8 times as much for that failure…this a main metric for medical care robustness……it is brainwashing, so sorry

      Dec 07, 2019 07:28 AM

That is infinitely wrong. Having said that, please discuss the cost factors. Is that also due to the drug companies?

You bring up some very good and thought provoking points, Larry!

    cfs
    Dec 07, 2019 07:50 AM

First, that statement, Larry, is misleading and skewed by the large number of poor migrants.
    Secondly, it is not true.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:33 AM

The number of infant deaths of six per one thousand births, given our society and the environments that many live in, does not seem high to me.

It is certainly a shame on the one hand and an interesting comment on the other hand since it is not particularly an admirable number but then again neither are most of Americas’s ghettos!

I do agree, Larry, with your implied point, that was not actually stated. Good healthcare is NOT available to everyone in the U.S., but is available to those who can afford it.
    That is where we differ.
As a selfish bastard who cares about his own health foremost, I live in the U.S. because here I can get the healthcare when I need it immediately. I don’t have to wait more than a day for an MRI or a cat-scan.
I don’t have to wait a week for a a specialist’s appointment; with money comes privileges.
With money I can buy the best care……anywhere in the world, and it is in the U.S.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:40 AM

I am certainly glad to hear that the health care in America is of such a high quality. I am sorry to hear that it is available only to those with “means” That is yet another negative comment on our society.

        cfs
        Dec 07, 2019 07:50 PM

Equality of opportunity exists in the U.S., not equality of outcome.

Advancement actually comes from Darwinian principles.
This has been proven time and time again.
The Pilgrim Fathers soon learned that pure socialism does not work.
An incentive is needed to drive mankind higher and higher.
Even if driven by greed more than need, incentives work.
A compassionate society, however, should always provide a safety net below which no one, no matter how lazy or incompetent should be allowed to fall; and the safety net should rise as society advances.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:44 AM

    Segment 4:

You may have missed the fact that politics from the left recently have been designed to obfuscate the pending release of the I.G. Report.
Few know the details, but it may well be that the crimes of the Obama administration and Deepstate, in spying on Trump, and by the current Democrat party in piling on and obstructing Trump by false allegations, doing everything they can to impede legislation regardless of the cost to the country may well bring down the leadership of the Democrat Party.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:48 AM

It could very well do that. As you know, Jim McKinney strongly thinks that it will. A few of our recent guests share that same opinion. I personally am hopeful that it will.

Here is kind of an interesting comment on my personality: I used to think that the Democrats were, often times, misdirected whereas now I think they are rude and obnoxious.

“Last September, Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that they were working on a mutual defense pact. Such a treaty, if signed, would officially and permanently mandate an American military intervention if Israel were to ever start a conflict with its neighbors.

The Trump administration is desperate to get this done, but Netanyahu is having trouble selling the idea to his rival Benny Gantz. The Likud party has so far been unable to form a government and Netanyahu is battling corruption charges. As a side note, two major GOP donors, Sheldon Adelson and Larry Ellison, are defense witnesses in Bibi’s case.”

How many millions did Adelson give Trump to get elected? No election interference of course. Nothing to see there.

Whos laughing now. Jr Trudeau got caught making fin of Trump. Couple days later jobs numbers out. Canada down 75,000 and with revised USA up 300,000. One month does not a economy make but kind of fitting the loon got outed. Just to give you an idea how stupid Jr is. Trump fighting for a USMCA agreement that means a hell of a lot more to Jr than Trump. Dems holding it up and Biden using Jr comments in political ads. Jr and Freeland have pissed off countries with half the worlds populations. Working on the other 1/2.
If Trump wins again the sucking sound you are going to here out of 2 socialist counties Canada and Mexico is going to be quite a story going forward. Kind of like Perot talking about the sucking sound 25 years ago that happened in the USA.

      Dec 07, 2019 07:44 AM

Monty, can’t agree more – Trudeau’s PC politics will weaken Canada, not strengthen her. The old guard and socialist minded leaders don’t get it, their people, like Americans, have had enough of their PC elitism.

The concept of an hereditary Monarchy is one that is probably past its expiry date.
Prince Andrew is irrelevant except perhaps for newspaper retailers.
Perhaps the anachronism of Monarchies should be end, but the English one is fairly well stripped of actual power, and a relatively inexpensive way of avoiding dictatorships.
An English Prime Minister would have a difficult time of declaring martial law and taking over military control of the country.
In the U.S., on the other hand, this is occasionally discussed, as an option for a President.
