I dont know of any time period where sex was only between a man and a woman.
We do have multiple time periods when any sex other than between a man and a woman is looked down upon.
This attitude is generally promoted by the dominant religions.
Just because people disagree with something doesnt make them right.

I see three aspects to current societal degradation.
First, I believe money and power corrupt.
(With money comes power and with power comes money, some I’m not so sure they are seperable any more.)
It is true that in both Rome and today we become increasingly controlled by “professional” politicians. While I’m not sure that is optimum fo rsociety, I don’t see an alternative.
Then we have the nouveau Riche Big Tech, people that became extremely rich before they developed maturity in judgment and life experience.
Finally, I believe we live in an age of extreme communication, in which input exceeds valuation considerations.
it was not for nothing the television became nicknamed the boob-tube. One could be vegetatively drugged and influenced by input without have to think and evaluate, AND in order to MAXIMIZE PROFITS, since profits correlate with reach, television was aimed at the lowest common denominator.
