It’s all play and no work until they get the paper process in place. 😉

Have undergone background investigation mid-1980’s. Wonder how long they keep records.

I work with OPM on background checks for my agency. We are switching back to the old school paper process until this mess is worked out. They should have had a paper process in place as a plan B years ago just in case. Kinda like having a pencil in case your pen runs out of ink.

And because of bit-rot maybe. I wonder how the government handles bit rot. The first thing I did after coding a database management system in the late 90’s was print it. But then I could see the writing on the wall. The DAT tape drives were so bad.

some article on Hacker News called it bit rot. It’s actually called data rot.

The story that you missed relevant to this was a spokes idiot at the White House who yesterday complain that the use of encryption for corporation emails should be discouraged because it was impeding the NSA. ( the implication was that the dictator might make an executive order making encryption illegal.)

In a move that’s prompting questions about the stockpiling of weapons by the federal government’s nonmilitary agencies, the Bureau of Reclamation wants to buy 52,000 rounds of ammunition for use in law enforcement at Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. That includes over 40,000 rounds of hollow point!
