Why the news media is not covering international news

Cory
January 6, 2017

Rick Ackerman joins us today in a boring market to step outside of the financial markets and look at the press coverage of international events. There is a lot going on in China plus Europe continues to struggle but we hear very little about this from the main stream media. We all address why this is happening and if it will change.

Maybe, it is important to scan UK newspapers like the Telegraph each day.

After the “China slowdown” it is important that its growth still makes the US growth, even as reported by Obama’s stooges, look pathetic.

the stooges only have ……………..13 days to go………..bye, bye Capt. Zero

It is important to be reminded of Rick’s impressive bio once in a while:

Rick Ackerman is the editor of Rick’s Picks, an online service geared to traders of stocks, options, index futures and commodities. His detailed trading strategies have appeared since the early 1990s in Black Box Forecasts, a newsletter he founded that originally was geared to professional option traders. Barron’s once labeled him an “intrepid trader” in a headline that alluded to his key role in solving a notorious pill-tampering case. He received a $200,000 reward when a conviction resulted, and the story was retold on TV’s FBI: The Untold Story. His professional background includes 12 years as a market maker in the pits of the Pacific Coast Exchange, three as an investigator with renowned San Francisco private eye Hal Lipset, seven as a reporter and newspaper editor, three as a columnist for the Sunday San Francisco Examiner, and two decades as a contributor to publications ranging from Barron’s to The Antiquarian Bookman to Fleet Street Letter and Utne Reader.

The strange thing about US Newspapers is that good reporting is not missing from Reuters and Associated Press newsfeeds. It is there, but the newspapers just don’t report it; or even worse, like the USAToday, deliberately edit to shape the news in a pro-left bias.

Good points from Rick about the news.
Interesting, not sure how actual reporting comes back when so many people understand msm has been deceiving for years.

Really enjoyed the discussion about the lack of people/resources to dig out the ‘real’ news. We can’t forget that newspapers are going the way of brick & mortar retail.
Anyway, most people under 50 probably couldn’t name some of the past greats as far as newsmen who got their news actually in the field. Some of the greatest in my opinion were David Halberstam, Neil Sheehan, Peter Arnett, Morley Safer and Eric Sevareid to name a few.

It’s about time…Bernie Sanders Supporters Launch Glass-Steagall Drive

Northwest Ohio supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders’ in his run for President have launched a nationwide push to enlist other organizations to send it letters and take to social media to endorse a demand that President-elect Donald Trump fulfill a campaign pledge. Trump made the pledge on October 26 of this year in a speech he delivered in Charlotte, North Carolina, promising to enact a 21st Century Glass-Steagall Act to reform Wall Street. Such legislation has been sitting dormant in both the House and Senate for years. If enacted, it would separate the deposit-taking, taxpayer-insured commercial banks from the globe-trotting, high-risk trading casinos known as investment banks on Wall Street.

The 1933 Glass-Steagall Act kept the financial system of the United States safe for 66 years until its repeal in 1999 during the Bill Clinton presidency. It took only nine years after its repeal for Wall Street to blow up the financial system in a replay of 1929. All that prevented another Great Depression was a massive, secret money drop by the Federal Reserve.

It’s my understanding newspapers didn’t make their money from the news. They made their money from the classified ads and such. Those revenue streams have been taken away by specialist internet sites. Sites for jobs, real estate, auctions/for sale, Craig’s list, and so on. As far as international news. There are TV stations on YouTube for Israel, France, Germany, Britain, India, China, … There are newspapers available at no cost from many countries around the world. There are blogs that let you know what’s going on at the grass roots level. Before I invested in Ivanhoe Mines circa ?2009? I read a blog produced by a Mongolian that described the politics and what life was like in Mongolia. So what I’m saying is the news is there if you have the patience to search for it. — The Young Turks are getting into investigative journalism. Raising money for teams. They’ve tested water’s the government declared safe. They’ve spent time with the Standing Rock tribe water protectors in North Dakota. I’m sure there are other organizations around the world performing investigations. We’ve moved into a shared and gig economy. Why shouldn’t investigative journalism be performed by the many? Performed by those with a deep self interest, like their water’s contaminated.

Money for these investigations can be raised as needed at the crowdfunding sites and at sites like Patreon.

Only a fool would fall for anything the Young Turks have to say.

+2 — I agree r.e. the young turks. but overall I like the comment.

The basic fact that people should understand with advertising-funded media is that the viewer/reader is the product being sold to the advertiser.

Rick is wrong about the internet. Internet is the new and improved and electronic Gutenberg press that has advanced the free press. More sources of information is good for the people. That is why dictators and murderers like Obama are doing everything in their power to shut it down:http://www.thenewamerican.com/tech/computers/item/24583-alex-newma-obama-freaks-out-over-freedom-of-press
