NAFTA Discussions Impacting Currencies

Cory
October 16, 2017

With NAFTA negotiation in round 4 there has been quite a bit of news and speculation regarding what will be decided. After asking our regular guests about their thoughts Marc Chandler is one of the only ones to have comments as he has been following along thanks to moves in the currency markets. The Canadian Dollar and Mexican Peso are getting hit today so we follow up on how the NAFTA talks are moving these currencies.

You need to explain to Big Owl the difference between Banking and Business.
He seems to have missed the lessons of Leviticus and the selling of property based on Jubilee.
Who decided to change the teachings of the Bible.

U.S. Immigrant Population Hit Record 43.7 Million in 2016
Overall growth slowed, but Middle Eastern, non-Mexico Latin American, Asian, and sub-Saharan African populations grew substantially

On September 14, 2017, the Census Bureau released some data from the 2016 American Community Survey (ACS) that shows uneven growth in the immigrant population in the last year. The number of immigrants (legal and illegal) from the Middle East, Latin American countries other than Mexico, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa grew significantly, while the number from some places, such as Mexico, Europe, and Canada, grew not at all or even declined. The Census Bureau refers to immigrants as the foreign-born, which includes all those who were not U.S. citizens at birth. The Department of Homeland Security has previously estimated that 1.9 million immigrants are missed by the ACS, so the total immigrant population in 2016 was likely 45.6 million.

    Meanwhile in Northeastern Spain…..
A Spanish judge’s decision to jail the leaders of two Catalan grassroots groups was met with a chorus banging pots and pans, honking car horns and clapping in the streets of Barcelona.
The groups, the Catalan National Assembly and Omnium Cultural, have called for people across Catalonia to halt work at noon on Tuesday to protest the jailing of their leaders.
Both groups have been pivotal to the Catalan movement to secede from Spain and drawn thousands of people to demonstrations in support of the region’s independence.
A judge jailed Jordi Sanchez of the Catalan National Assembly and Jordi Cuixart of Omnium Cultural on Monday while they are investigated for sedition in their roles organizing demonstrations held Sept. 20-21 in Barcelona.
Protests at the headquarters of the national government’s representatives in the Catalan provincial capitals also are scheduled for Tuesday evening.

Things changed when Doug Casey said he put money in Bitcoin.
Notice nobody is coming out calling Mr Casey a fool.

          Oct 16, 2017 16:49 PM

Some of the mouthy ones on this board, missed the entire run up…….I went back to 2011 and one idiot, said……fools gold…..I think it was $200…..and now $6000…..lol

            Oct 17, 2017 17:53 AM

Jerry, the move to $6000 does not make your “idiot” incorrect. BC is definitely fools gold since it is not money and acts nothing like money.

          JohnK:

Sir Issac Newton lost his fortune investing in the South Sea Bubble in 1720. While he was brilliant overall, he was a fool to invest in what was a classic bubble. But to make a bubble, you need someone of high visibility to invest near the top.

In Nobody Knows Anything I included 23 pages discussing the classic book on investing Extraordinary Popular Delusions because it gave example after example of how the mob ran to invest in the latest craze and always lost their fortunes.

When the only thing you can say about Bitcoin is that it has gone up and that alone gives it value, you have just defined a bubble.

If you haven’t read the book you need to buy it and read it. If you have read the book, you need to reread it. This is a classic bubble.

            Oct 17, 2017 17:51 AM

And only fools invest in bubbles, including Issac Newton and Doug Casey.

            Mr Moriarty:
Here is a repost from this week end.
You know I have a ton of respect for you. That being said I always “Put it out There”

            On October 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm,
            JohnK says:
Seems that everywhere I end up on the Internet these days I find Mr. Moriarty.
I wonder if Mr Moriarty is getting tired yet doing interviews where the first thing they ask him is about Bitcoin?
I quote “Anyone who lies about there being “naked short selling” in commodities is 100% fraud. There is no such thing and they know it.
“Nobody knows anything” a catchy quote by William Goldman,a 2003 hollywood release of the movie starring Mike Meyers, and the Title of your book (which I purchased and read).
JohnK knows this. There may be no naked shorting on the Comex but that doesn’t mean there are no commodity derivative swaps hidden off-exchange,and off balance sheets.
This was guaranteed on December 21,2000 by then President Bill Clinton signing into law the Commodities Futures Modernization Act repealing prohibitions on certain kinds of swaps.
Let us revisit the 2008 implosion of Bear Stearns. No naked short selling say you? How about an insolvent speculator with a massive short position that ends up going bankrupt? What happens then?
We all know what happens, and this shoots your “for every buyer, there is a seller pablum” all to crap.Jamie Dimon and JPM became the eventual recipient of the Bear Stearns short position for pennies on the dollar. The Comex raised margin requirements three times in one week,The CFTC started enforcing position limits and of course JPM was grandfathered in with their newly acquired short position.
The 2008 housing crash started as a liquidity squeeze in the Silver Futures but no one will ever tell you that.
I wonder if Mr Moriarty thinks that if he hears himself professing the eventual crash of Bitcoin enough, this will ensure the manifest destiny of the crypto’s?
I’m actually starting to feel sadness now that I’ve had to debate these lost dinosaurs whom I respect but fail to acknowledge that they have lost touch with the upcoming new generation.
When will these lost dinosaurs acknowledge that the millennials are not as uninformed as we are led to believe?
Yes the millennials are starting to understand the tyranny of the Central banks, with their predatory lending practices and how they have forgotten the lessons of the Old Testament concerning the lending of money?
So now I hear Mr Moriarty once again preaching the gospel to Maurice Jackson of Proven and Probable. After listening to this interview there is little wonder why most people conducting interviews are nothing more than sheep waiting to be sheared.
Once again Mr Moriarty states that Bitcoin is a pseudo currency. Saying Bitcoin has no value is like the Postmaster saying that E-mail is a scam because there are no stamps. Mr Jackson poses the question to you whether speculators should buy sell or hold Bitcoin? In typical fashion you did not answer the question but rather say you need to be asking the right question. Instead of answering the question, you pose another question. What and who does this remind us of?
At that point Mr Jackson should have felt the shears, but of course,Mr Jackson reveals to us his inability to hold you on point and let you ramble off in any direction you desire.
At least when you did the interview with the Wealth Research Group ,the commentator responded with quotes like” The internet is in the third wave”and” Bitcoin is the tip of the revolution.”The interviewer started as a speculator and now is a believer. Of course you countered with “There is no way Governments are going to let people have autonomous transactions. No the day is coming where the “Government” will be forced to admit that they don’t need the Central Bank, ie “The Fed”, rather the Fed needs the Government. You go on to argue that a sound money system based on Gold Bullion is the answer. This would be great, but guess what ? We already know who has all the Bullion .They put us over 20 Trillion in debt. Just in the U.S.Why would we entrust these Money Changers with the future of our Grandchildren? Maybe you,not me.
The peanut gallery is serving lunch today,I believe the menu says”humble Pie”

            Oct 17, 2017 17:21 AM

            Mr Moriarty:
What else do fools invest in?
To be in a bubble, the bubble must burst. When is the bubble going to burst? How bad will the Bursting be in monetary terms?
I only have about$5600 per Bitcoin until I am out of the money.
New month I will be getting another alt coin as a dividend of the original purchase of Biticoin.
So now through purchasing Bitcoin,I have Bitcoin,Bitcoin Cash and the new coin coming. Are all of these in a bubble also?

            Oct 17, 2017 17:34 AM

I doubt that Doug Casey has even 1% of his wealth in bitcoins.

            Oct 17, 2017 17:38 AM

Talk to someone as I have about cashing out all your Bitcoin, it took a friend of my son’s one week to get out and that was only allowed after he filled out documents that required him to answer many very personal questions. Now imagine trying to get out after a correction. You better make sure you are at the head of the line in plenty of time.

            Oct 17, 2017 17:24 PM

            JohnK:

For every commodity contract there is one buyer and one seller. I was a commodity broker and that fact is one of the most important issues to understand and every single commodity broker knows it.

You have all the right in the world to your own opinion but you have no right to your own facts.

It is a fact that there is no such thing as naked short selling in commodities in the same way that no one ever talks about naked long buying.

It is my opinion that bitcoin is a bubble and only time will tell. But if it looks like a bubble and walks like a bubble and talks like a bubble, it is not a duck.

Bitcoin doesn’t do anything. It’s based on a new form of accounting system that is a leap forward but when the only value is that it has gone up, that was just as true of tulip bulbs and Beanie Babies until it wasn’t.

            Suckers love bubbles.

          Oct 17, 2017 17:49 AM

          Bonzo,Mathew:
That is the point about throwing some money at the crypto. Is the fool one who has not yet?
Nothing wrong with a little speculating.
As far as cashing out.I will never sell my Bitcoin.I can electronically transfer it anywhere in a millisecond . I can buy a new laptop with Bitcoin. As time goes on more and more merchants will accept the cryptos and you will be able to purchase with a cell phone.
Do yourself a big favor and buy 1 Bitcoin. You can thank me later.

            Oct 17, 2017 17:59 AM

As long as you don’t sell,l you don’t have to pay tax. You might have to pay sales tax on purchases eventually. The cure for that is move to where there is none.
            Is the picture getting clearer?

            Oct 17, 2017 17:03 AM

Sorry Mathew. For a flash I thought you were D.T.

            Oct 17, 2017 17:13 AM

My Bad. You can already make purchases with a cell phone.I always laugh because the person who steered me into Bitcoin gave me a fraction of a Bitcoin to show me how easy it was to transfer. I buy that Guy Dinner every chance I can because that fraction of a Bitcoin will pay for it every time.

Surreal bull flag on the Russell 2000. It is beyond text book perfect. And given the size of moonshot that preceded it, makes it all the more ridiculous. Talk about buying pressure, wow.

I think it will easily spike to new highs and it will form negative divergences on the momentum indicators at which point it will correct a little bit harder, but I guarantee today’s price won’t be taken out on that correction.

And of course, the scumbags at ABC decide to make the focus of the story sexual harassment and assault in general, which falls right in line with their gender war agenda, instead of focusing on sexual perversion of all sorts IN HOLLYWOOD.

Trump? Some scraps are being thrown for his stalwarts. He’s a shameless liar who has surrounded himself with scumbags. Better than Hillary is a very low bar.

    Well stated GH:
I follow some websites that are questionable, and that is an understatement, but they have been trying for a long time to expose the pedophiles and the Satanic Cults that exploited Children and even murdered them.
This is a real serious problem not only in the U S Government but internationally as well.
Hollywood and the Media have done their best to destroy the fabric of the United States. They should have known better.
President Trump knows who the players are and is guilty in being complicit to protect them.

Russian Purchase of US Uranium Assets in Return for $145mm in Contributions to the Clinton Foundation – Bill and Hillary Clinton assisted a Canadian financier, Frank Giustra, and his company, Uranium One, in the acquisition of uranium mining concessions in Kazakhstan and the United States. Subsequently, the Russian government sought to purchase Uranium One but required approval from the Obama administration given the strategic importance of the uranium assets. In the run-up to the approval of the deal by the State Department, nine shareholders of Uranium One just happened to make $145mm in donations to the Clinton Foundation. Moreover, the New Yorker confirmed that Bill Clinton received $500,000 in speaking fees from a Russian investment bank, with ties to the Kremlin, around the same time. Needless to say, the State D
