Holding Chernobyl would provide Russian troops a staging point that couldn’t be shelled,” the report adds, in reference to the potential for dangerous radioactive fallout given the permanent presence of nuclear waste there. Speculation remains that should the site come under direct shelling, there could be nuclear contamination released into the air, potentially impacting other areas in Europe.

I seem to recall under the Minsk treaty (agreement) back in 2014 when Russia took Crimea, that Ukraine and Russia agreed to talk/negotiate about Minsk.
However, it is my understanding that Ukraine chose not to meet to discuss Minsk.

Leading NATO countries pursue their own goal by fully supporting Ukraine’s extreme Nazis and neo-Nazis, who, in turn, will never forgive the people of Crimea and Sevastopol for their free choice to reunify with Russia.

I’m backing the truth…….Just like when I’m accusd of backing Israel…..I’m usually simply reminding folks of agreements made, but then unilaterally broken.
Back in 2014, when Russia took back Crimea, rightly or wrongly (I’m not taking sides) in order to actually end the fighting an agreement was made, with negotiations with the EU, that Ukraine would meet with Russia to discuss the status of Russian citizens in Donetsk and Luhansk.
THIS WAS THE MINSK AGREEMENT.

IN SUMMARY, Putin said Russia was going into to protect the groups that were protecting Russian citizens, because of the failure of Ukraine to return to the negotiation table.
Whether Putin has since changed his mind, after seeing how totally weak both America and the EU are, (and their lying), I don’t know. Perhaps, now he has decided to take all of Ukraine. I don’t know.
