Welcome!

There are changes coming to the supply side of the oil market

October 1, 2015

We focus on oil again with Chris as the price has pulled back since our chat with Gary. Not so much focusing on short term moves Chris and I look at the supply changes that will have to occur from a company level and in the US.

Did Putin just call up 150,000 conscripts?

    Oct 01, 2015 01:46 AM

Forget shorting oil I am shorting the S&P.

    Get long the miners.

      Oct 01, 2015 01:06 AM

Could very well be the time!

      Oct 01, 2015 01:21 AM

Already a bag holder, just waiting for the moon shot.

      Oct 01, 2015 01:48 AM

What do you mean by miners Tenyear? Gold? Silver?

To me the miners are copper, coal, iron. Gold and silver would be precious metal miners.

Just curious about the use of language difference between the US and the UK.

I just wonder if Saudi, even though it is going through its rainy day funds, might try to lower the oil price even more as an attempt to destroy the Russian economy.

Risky games now that Russia has got a growing foothold in Syria.

      Oct 01, 2015 01:02 AM

I respectfully question the basis of this – and can just as easily envision a deal between Russia and Saudi Arabia that would please both RE: oil

        Oct 01, 2015 01:32 AM

Which I think is very much part of the plan from Putin.

Time to keep an eye on the movements of the Saudi Fiance & Oil ministers – if they go flying off to Geneva or even Moscow a deal will be in the process of being done… perhaps…

      Oct 01, 2015 01:06 AM

Yes it certainly is getting much more of a risky game, Bob!

We keep forgetting in the West that Russia, invited in by the Syrian government, is the only country legally bombing in Syria.

The West decided that Syria is a failed state and technically no longer exists as the justification for bombing. We have no UN resolution.

It is a moot point if you are being bombed… but an important legal one I guess.

The US/UK dominance of the Middle East oil-fields – over 70 years of policy, arguably 100 years of policy – is evaporating before our eyes.

Is Obama to blame? Not sure.

There certainly appears to have been a vacuum created in the Middle East by Obama’s hands-off policy… which has allowed Russia to make gains in recent days that it could only dream off during the Cold War years.

      Oct 01, 2015 01:05 AM

It is overly simplistic to say this is all Obama’s fault — don’t forget that “Junior’s” antics (orchestrated by V.P. Cheney and the neocon cabal) arguably led to a precipitous decline in our stature security-wise throughout the world. Frankly, I give some credit where due to Obama for not being hasty. Were a whack job like McCain president, we’d all be radioactive dust by now.

Having said all that, though, it’s hard not to appreciate the contrast between Putin and Obama:

Not sure that we would be radioactive dust by now. But, who knows.

One thing that I do know is that our international stature is currently dropping. Now, of course, that could change. I simply have my doubts.

        Great link by the way!

Getting bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq allowed millions of people to see the limitations of US/UK/NATO power. Huge mistake by Bush/Blair administations which we are seeing the rammifications of today and ever since we went into both countries.

        Oct 01, 2015 01:23 AM

Chris, let’s also not forget that we created the current mess in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Syria and the Stans.

        Oct 01, 2015 01:19 AM

Another reason to respect your judgment on investments. Well said, again! Few conservatives would be so honest on the middle east clusterfu**that began to change with our effort to unseat Saddam. SOB that he was, you have to admit he was a balancing factor. Then we disbanded the Iraqi Army and we have today the results. There isn’t a leader alive who can unravel the problems…..guess it will simply have to play itself out and we’ll be left with the pieces. Thanks again for your comments.

          Oct 01, 2015 01:44 PM

jim posted a nice piece below………concerning the cluster……..

Timing for buying the oil companies is the thing – as we all know.

      Oct 01, 2015 01:01 AM

Oops, hit the submit button too soon.

Was going to say that buying too soon and you could be buying something that is going out of business. Heck, we all know that – but I think between now and Christmas we will get a buying opportunity in some currently cheap oil companies.

You know folks, I have never looked at defence stocks but I might just go and look at Lockheed Martin and BAE later on.

Here we have an Andrew’s pitchfork applied to each of the peaks in the Canadian dollar’s double top in 2011. Both are legit:

Supply side declines in shale oil will be more than offset by the Iranian oil coming on the global market. Only thing to constrict overall supply is WW III, which would choke off Mid-East oil.
