Cory

Today with Chris Temple we look at the big picture where gold, bonds, and equities all move up together. Recently this has been the new trend of the markets which very few people expected. Chris also brings up the concept of mercantilism in the framework of what Trump’s policies will result in.

If the US cannot afford to pay high interest rates, then high interest rates will not occur.

    More jobs.
Last night I watched a fellow from a governmental agency (sry forget which one)
I guess they figure 40% of jobs will be lost in 10 years due to AI and robotics.

The government in its wisdom figured training was the answer.
Not really sure how they know exactly what to train for.
I think they are more cyoa, training merely allows them to say they did something.
In any case, 40% loss of jobs?
Is there anyone that actually can figure how that will affect the economy, how about life in general?

The Russian move to the East was based about a decade ago on theories of global warming.
Unfortunately, as they now recognize, the Global warming theory was wrong, but bureaucracy is such that they will not admit they will have a problem.

Chris sounds right on to me. We get Rick Ackerman’s crushing debt deflation reducing productive gains, employment, etc. but we get rising prices for necessities. Call it stagflation, cost-push inflation, etc. that’s what seems likely.

Devaluation of the dollar seems guaranteed.

There are some pretty cold places, Oymyakon, gets to -67 and colder.
Antarctica can get colder but Oymyakon is inhabited year round.
    Diamonds are big there.
    Established 1924?

Some people live in the cold, Alaska,Canada can get cold.

I have issues with -10, I wont be taking advantage of the Russian offer .

It just looks to me to be the same pattern as what happened in Canada, a railroad and free land.

All things considered, overall it caused the place to boom for about 100 years,
    for white protestants anyway.

Has anyone noticed how in recent times the term “global warming” has been changed to “climate change”???? Is it perhaps because some recordings of record low temps, high rainfall and high snow count doesnt tie in with the “warming” factor?

Mr T – OK – your comments on Mercantilism got me to look more closely and you’re spot on. Thanks for putting that word back into our top-of-mind-awareness again.

It had been a long time (since the formative school years in economics) since I had heard the term. It sums things up fairly well.

“Noted capitalist Adam Smith described a mercantile system as a political economy that favored the host country by encouraging the exportation of goods and limiting imports. Historically, this was a significant instance of the government influencing the economy. One method for this was placing higher tariffs on imports, encouraging consumers to buy goods made within the country. This policy is still practiced in the modern era.”
