Gold vs potential deflation
Rick Ackerman joins me to content in the bounce in gold and breakout, at least for now, in GDX. The general bullishness in gold is balanced with Rick’s overall deflationary outlook.
Despite having spent roughly 6 years above $30 and as high as $60+, GDX has relatively little volume-based resistance above $30, and in this environment, that could spell big quick gains.

Hey Rick, Mitch McConnell said today that The Federal Government was not going to bailout California, Connecticut, and Illinois. I just went back Mr. Tracy and read my comment and yours. I believe that you were discussing the Chevy Chase movie about Christmas. My only thought was to concentrate on the movie and not read anything into it.

I’m only 5 min 20 sec into the interview but I have to say that I think Rick’s reading of things is on the money about gold and the miners. GDX just closed at a 7 year high and GDXJ closed up 7.8% yet there is very little optimism on any of the sites that visit. In fact, I came across some bulls that were short term bearish and found themselves covering today.
The setup looks perfect for more significant short term gains as this plays out the way I described (on 3/14 and 3/16) at the low.
GDX tapped pitchfork resistance today but I doubt that resistance will be a factor for long…
