Al and Jerry, What’s going on? Tom Seaver died last month. Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Maury Wills, and Whitey Ford died last week. Now Joe Morgan has died at 77. Who is next? I am worried about Nolan Ryan, Yaz, and Sandy Koufax.

I started to reflect………when the notice came out on Whitey Ford the other day….
A lot of good times, playing BB, and trading the BB cards…..as a youth….I always like Whitey Ford,….had forgot all about him till the notice….Really a great player.
Old age comes at you quick, after 70…..

Whitey, Yogi, and Mickey were my idols. I still have my baseball cards from ’58- ’62. I have all the greats except Ted Williams. Never was lucky enough to open my gum and find a Ted.
Whitey won 10 World Series games, more than anyone. He pitched a record 34 consecutive scoreless innings in the World Series, breaking Babe Ruth’s record of 29 innings. Whitey’s lifetime ERA was 2.75, lower than Koufax’s. And Whitey’s winning % was .690, highest of any pitcher in the Hall of Fame. Whitey would have been 92 on Oct.21.

I had a box of baseball cards with all the great players of the 50s. Despite growing up in Houston. I was a Yankee fan with Mantles, Fords, Berras, etc. Also Fellers, Lemons, Sniders, Campanellas, Reeses, Aparicios, Rizzutos, Banks, etc.
I kept the box in my dresser drawer while at college. My Mom tossed them in the trash one day, getting rid of all that junk in my room.

My mom gave my b-ball cards to a Christian minister’s family to “evaluate.” Naturally I protested. When the shoe box came back, all the gems such as Willy Mays, Mickey Mantle & Lou Brock were missing, right at mkt peak–
She protested, he’s a minister. Here’s you’re whole box full of cards. Years later via living trust, she tried to “inherit” her own mother’s estate, claiming her mother was mentally incompetent. All forgiven, forget the rest___

My aunt threw away my cousins baseball cards. My mom left my cards in the dresser, but when I was at grad school at Indiana U. she tossed my stack of Batman and Superman comic books from the mid-50’s.

It’s good I don’t keep my mining stocks in a drawer; and, somehow lost my physical at the bottom of a lake.
