Hour 1 – Markets and Metals – Mike Larson, John Kaiser and an update from Novo Resources

Cory
September 5, 2020
Full First Hour

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day long weekend! The rest of this year should be a wild ride.

Please keep the emails coming to Fleck@kereport.com. I’m trying to bring on the most interesting companies in the sector and I value all your feedback and questions.

  • Segment 1 and 2 – Mike Larson kicks off the show by commenting on the possibility of this being the Dot Com 2.0 bubble. We also look at the US dollar and it’s impact on commodities.
  • Segment 3 – John Kaiser is next up with a focus on the junior precious metals sector. He shares some stocks he is watching and the drill programs he thinks have a good chance of driving the stock higher.
  • Segment 4 – We get an update from Novo Resources and the President and Chairman Quinton Hennigh. We discuss the move towards production at Beatons Creek and the exploration that is ongoing.

    Great comments…from the guest…..

Great to hear from Quinton. Happy Labor Day!

      Sep 05, 2020 05:39 AM

It’s difficult to take Kaiser seriously when he recites the Covid mantra without question.

        Sep 07, 2020 07:06 PM

Kaiser constantly interjects his smug political biases and self-righteous opinions in his talks and has for many years now to his own detriment. It would be much better if John just stuck to the macro economic themes without taking such an entrenched position and making the knowingly devise statements he often does in his talks.

      Sep 05, 2020 05:41 AM

Agreed. Nice to get the Q.H. update on Novo Resources, (especially as a shareholder again as of this last week).

Happy Labor Day to the KER crew!

I haven’t listened yet, but the dot com 2.0 bubble concept is funny.
The overinflated technocracies that are “paid for by YOUR tax dollars (unknowingly by you)” have false stock prices over-inflating the market which ‘finally’ has come to roost. It’s time the good ole boys in the alphabet ‘private contracting agencies’ get exposed.
ShadowGate has exposed big tech. It won’t end well.

The market should (probably will) be rebalanced with companies that actually offer a real product and have a valuable service.

If big tech gets hit (and it will) and ‘real equity companies comprise the exchange’, it will save the 401k / pension funds. And that’s probably what Trump knows how to manage (better than anyone else).

One of Donald Trumps best attributes is:
He can’t be lied to by the financial guru’s. He knows finance as good as anyone. He will know how to (and has proven) to manage the Triffin dilemma as better than any mortal man can.

    Sep 05, 2020 05:30 AM

Our species doesn’t get it, this pandemic is nothing compared to the ten’s of thousands of nuclear weapons that exist today. Man’s rampant aggressiveness, and all the wars he has caused means nuclear weapons must be abolished. If he fails to do so his incorrigibility will be punished through these terrible weapons he has created and will ultimately lead to extermination of our species. https://caitlinjohnstone.com/2020/08/30/nuclear-war-a-thought-experiment/

      Sep 05, 2020 05:44 AM

Just turn all the nuclear weapons into fuel for nuclear power and use it for the good of humanity. Remember that Megatons to Megawatts program dismantling nuclear weapons and turning them fuel for power generation reactors? That program made a lot of sense philosophically, but their breaking the quotas and forcing too much supply into the spot market crippling the actual Uranium producers was a terrible call by the Obama administration. However, a slow and steady dismantling of nuclear weapons to turn them into nuclear fuel makes the most sense. The US military has fleets of nuclear powered submarines, and they could just use that fuel in those as well.

        Sep 05, 2020 05:47 AM

The other area with a lot of potential are the small modular reactors, that are quite safe from meltdowns, very efficient at producing cheap energy, and scalable. All that nuclear fuel that has already been processed could be use to sprout of small modular reactors all over the country and buttress the energy grids with stable 24/7 baseload power.

          Sep 05, 2020 05:35 AM

Ex, Yesterday, after reading a couple of your posts I listened to Eric Sprott, I was particularly interested in what he had to say about Pure Gold. Discovery is his number 1 pick and Pure Gold is probably number 2. PGM is my favorite and I will hold for the longshot if it isn’t acquired. His number 1 criteria for investing is not management but the price of a commodity, and he prefers to invest mostly in Canada, The US, Australia, and Mexico, although he mentioned he has lately bought two projects in Mongolia. I think what separates him from most successful investors is he sticks with his winners to the end and sells for big profits, that is how I see Pure Gold playing out. DT

            Sep 05, 2020 05:55 AM

In my opinion, PGM is too much of a valued prize not to be bought out. I will be making it a larger part of my portfolio after labor day, once Freegold Ventures posts their drilling results from Golden Summit. DT

            Sep 05, 2020 05:58 AM

Agreed DT. Pure Gold has been a true winner, and should be producing gold in Red Lake by Christmas, so that’s an encouraging thought. They’ve also continued to do some additional exploration to add to their reserves and mine life and show there is much more potential on their property left to explore.

I’ve had an excellent run in Pure Gold so far, but trimmed back just a little on Friday to rotate into stocks that haven’t moved as much, but left about 72% of the position in place to keep on riding higher into production or a takeover scenario.

As mentioned yesterday, I immediately felt sellers remorse, when I considered what would happen if they got acquired while my position size was reduced, and then the Eric Sprott podcast was posted by Jonathan Roth a little while later and I just shook my head at the timing of it all.

The profits were well-earned though, and were well over 300% on the portion I trimmed back, and they were invested into other stocks like Westhaven Gold, Golden Minerals, and put some back into Dolly Varden that I had trimmed back at higher levels. At one point I’ll trim back some other stock in the porfolio and then add more to refortify my Pure Gold position a bit more, but I’ve still got a nice core position to keep cruising for now…

Damn. I was looking to roll back in to Pure Gold again for the next leg up as it got closer to production. Eric messed me up this time instead of making me money. I only have the free shares left from the original move to $2.30 that I sold in to. Been too busy working to follow things daily. Other than kodiak of course. Looking forward to hearing that interview coming soon here. September is here so let’s get this PM bull going again.

Another point that should be brought up is the quality of the team with having Mark O’Dea and the Oxygen Capital team behind the company. People always talk about the “Quality of people behind a company” and I’ve been very impressed following Mark over the years. I won with him on True Gold being taken over by Endeavour Mining in West Africa, Mark was one on the board of directors over at NexGen during a critical time period, and with Oxygen Capital they are over 4 companies: Pure Gold, Liberty Gold, Discovery Metals, and Sun Metals. I’m invested with 3 of them – Pure Gold, Discovery Metals, and Sun Metals.

With the Oxgen Capital Group – I went with Pure Gold for the yellow metal, Discovery Metals for the white metal, and Sun Metals for the red metal.

There seems to have been incorrect market expectations a year or two back with Sun Metals both on the upside and downside, and it represents one of those unique opportunities where they have a good team, good asset, and much more known about the deposit now than when it was valued much higher, and the froth has been cleared out of the stock and it is held by stronger hands at this point. I just recently started a position in Sun Metals at the very end of July, because I feel they are now a good risk/reward opportunity, and I wanted a Copper asset with the Oxygen Capital group. So far it has responded well over the last 5 weeks that I’ve owned it, and I’ll be adding more to the position as things proceed.

            b – That’s interesting on the long-life nano-diamond battery.

Energy Storage is still a very huge opportunity and there are different kinds of batteries for different situations that are idea. Some use Lithium Ion batteries (with plenty of Nickel and Graphite as well), some use Copper/Nickle, some larger grid storage batteries use Vandium Redox batteries.

This should be a continuing boon to the Battery Metals sector for sure.

            Sep 05, 2020 05:02 PM

Nickle = Nickel. (It was in there as Nickel the first time, so not sure what happened on the 2nd reference). Haha!

            Sep 05, 2020 05:57 PM

Yeah Ex I did the same. Bought some Sun at .175 and the kodiak as I wanted copper exposure on the exploration side and both management groups are solid. Suns had a few days recently where I thought it might break out nicely to the upside. It’s started to see some accumulation just like kodiak. Hopefully they hit something nice as well

            Sep 06, 2020 06:38 AM

Agreed Wolfster. Sun Metals is gradually getting some traction, and looking forward to seeing them hit a few more good holes to expand their copper/gold resource. Looking to see if it can pull a Kodiak move out of it’s hat.

Speaking of the Red Lake area, there is another company operating near Pure Gold and Great Bear that has beefed up their marketing and drilling lately — GoldOn.

Thanks DT and OOTB. I just post information as I research it, in case someone else gets any benefit from them or has anything to add or throw into the mix. Cheers!

Also sometimes I’ll go back to a previous day or weeks blog and find the article/video/audio/chart to reference or review again. Sometimes it takes a second read of an article or listening of an interview for things to register for me. I like knowing many of them are here on the KER blogs for quick reference.

            Sep 06, 2020 06:58 PM

DT& OOTB – I should also mention to you both that I really appreciate all the thoughts and insights you both share, as well as all the other regular or occasional contributors here on the KER blog. That’s what makes it such an interesting and informative place, in addition to the fantastic interview that Cory does every single week.

    Sep 06, 2020 06:41 PM

Since no one has said this I will: how does John Kaiser stay in business? How does he have so much as a single subscriber? He is by far the most worthless of regular interviewees here.

      Sep 06, 2020 06:47 PM

      Well, blazesb………you do have a good point….

        Sep 07, 2020 07:21 PM

I like the concept of John Kaiser’s “bottom fishing,” but he often picks obscure tiny geo-run companies in the specialty metals, base metals, or even in gold and silver exploration space that rarely pan out as he is trying to pick ideas that aren’t as popular. He’s also backed a number of dormant developers while others did much better during similar time periods. The only thing I remember JK hitting big on in the last few years was Arizona Mining.

We were covering (AZ) Arizona Mining long before any newsletter writer was here on the KER, back when they were Wildcat Silver (WS), and we tracked it all the way until Arizona Mining got taken over for over a Billion dollars by South32. [hat tip to Dan, calgary]

I’ll still consider JKs thoughts on the mining sector or listen to his critiques or compliments on a company, as he has his own unique experience and point of view, but often he dismisses many of the companies actually doing good work, and hypes up long-shot lottery tickets instead, which is just not going to have as good of results. Granted he doesn’t pile on the hot cult stocks of the day like most newsletter writers either, so he is his man in that sense.

The 2020 Labor Day holiday has a new and profound meaning

    September 4, 2020 – Gary Wagner #TechnicalAnalysis #Chart #VIDEO

“With Labor Day weekend beginning for both the United States and Canada at the conclusion of work today, this year’s celebration has a completely different tone and implication. With the global pandemic causing over 30 million Americans initially losing their employment, and the unemployment rate doubling to nearly 14% in Canada (between February and April). The meaning of this holiday has shifted from celebration to either thankfulness to be gainfully employed, and empathy for those that have themselves or know loved ones that have lost their jobs.”

        Sep. 4, 2020 – Clif Droke

“For the past month, gold and gold mining stocks have languished in the shadow of the broad stock market. While stocks soared in August, the yellow metal – as well as the shares of companies that mine it – went nowhere as investors were more than happy to leave the safe havens and embrace riskier assets. The indifference toward gold is likely to reverse in the coming weeks, however, as recent statements from the Federal Reserve suggest. And if my assessment is correct, investors will soon have another entry point for buying gold mining shares.”

Bob Moriarty mentioned his position in (BLLG) Blue Lagoon Resources in that interview with Crush the Street up above. I started a position in Blue Lagoon a few weeks back, due to a Jeb Handwerger twitter post, and didn’t even realize Bob M was invested but that is encouraging to know. I’m waiting to see how they do on their current exploration program to see if they can hit pay-dirt and continue to grow the resource size.

A my eyes are lazy lagoon blue I feel I should check out Blue Lagoon. And this is fellow Texan Buddy Holly’s birthday, much more important to me than Labor Day!

      Sep 07, 2020 07:19 AM

      Thanks for the comment, Bonzo

        Sep 07, 2020 07:13 PM

Al, are you a Buddy Holly fan? What are your 2 favorite songs of his? I’ll take “True Love Ways” and “Everyday.”

      Sep 07, 2020 07:13 PM

Blue Lagoon Resources still seems quite speculative, and therefore risky, but they have some resource in place and are simply growing it from here with the drilling to see if they can improve mine life, economics, and scale. My position in it is small, but I wanted a fishing pole at the water at the lagoon just in case they reel in a bigger fish.

So, served on a silver platter, the big smashdown in gold coming right up?

      Sep 07, 2020 07:27 PM

Kodiak really ties things together from this weekend blog, where Copper stocks, Vince (aka @stateside), and John Kaiser were all discussed up above.

Vince wasn’t in agreement with John Kaiser on his views on Kodiak, as became very clear over at ceo.ca.

@stateside Kaiser’s hatred for Kodiak obvious in the two podcasts he’s talked about them. I think John is still smarting from his ZFR disappointment.

      https://ceo.ca/kdk?671ded702b33

        Sep 07, 2020 07:30 PM

continuing on regarding Kodiak and John Kaiser’s comments:

@flyinthruu – “@stateside – that was a bummer…regarding KDK, hey, it was a solid hit and you’ve got mgmt with strong past success and a strong hit. Good start. ”

@Ham – “What surprised me about the Kaiser interview was how much time he spent on the ancient history which had no relevance to the story today.”

@ludwigjimi – “It’s hard to not get emotional about your picks, one way or the other.”

@stateside – “ZFR had a predrill market cap the same as KDK does now and Kaiser was pumping it as a Billion $ opportunity. He’s still licking his wounds so he’s a bit salty. On the Cory podcast he says if they don’t hit on the next hole watch out for a big drop in share price. Ok John. We’ll be watching. You’re hoping for a one hit wonder to make you feel better about your ZFR loss. Chris said this isn’t a one hit wonder. We get to see who is right.”

        https://ceo.ca/kdk?2be6fc749eb1

          Sep 07, 2020 07:34 PM

(ZFR) Zephyr Minerals Ltd being referenced was supposed to be hot new Broken Hill type deposit with Zinc/Lead/Silver and it had shot up to $1.15ish in August on newsletter writer hype, including Kaiser’s, and then when they put out dusters it crashed back down to around $.19 now. Such is the nature of the exploration business.

    Sep 07, 2020 07:45 PM

That was supposed to be here, the big smashdown in gold……….

Galiano Gold drills 79 m of 4.7 g/t Au at Asanko
    2020-09-08 07:47 ET – News Release
    Mr. Greg McCunn reports

GALIANO GOLD PROVIDES NKRAN EXPLORATION UPDATE

Galiano Gold Inc. has provided an update from its 2020 exploration program under way at the Asanko gold mine (AGM), located in Ghana, West Africa. The AGM is a 50:50 joint venture (“JV”) with Gold Fields Ltd (JSE, NYSE: GFI), which is managed and operated by Galiano.

      Sep 08, 2020 08:32 AM

Those are some excellent drill results that Galliano just put out:

      > Drilling highlights:
      Hole 012: 79 meters @ 4.7 g/t gold (from 1m to 80m) and 80 meters @ 3.9 g/t gold (from 84m to 164m)
      Hole 021: 43 meters @ 3.3 g/t gold (from 1m to 44m)
      Hole 022: 44 meters @ 3.2 g/t gold (from 14m to 58m)
      Hole 023: 62 meters @ 6.1 g/t gold (from 65m to 127m)
      Hole 025: 30 meters @ 21.5 g/t gold (from 128m to 158m)
      Hole 026: 27 meters @ 4.9 g/t gold (from 137m to 164m)
      Hole 028: 27 meters @ 3.7 g/t gold (from 93m to 120m)

“Our in-pit drilling program has indicated that the Nkran mineralized system is continuing to depth,” said Greg McCunn, Chief Executive Officer. “While the drilling has improved our confidence in the third cut of the open pit that was envisioned in our life of mine plan, the results indicate that further drilling and engineering is required to determine if Nkran Cut 3 can be expanded or should be transitioned from an open pit to an underground mine.”
