Doc Jones Discusses Gold Stocks And Energy Companies

Shad Marquitz
December 27, 2021

Doc Jones, Private Investor, joins us to discuss his macro thoughts on the precious metals and energy commodities, as well as a few resource stocks he likes in each sector

Despite the low sentiment in the gold mining stocks, Doc Jones points out that the underlying metal prices seen in 2021 are still very attractive for producers and the economics of advanced developers.  We discuss the gold development companies Millennial Precious Metals (MPM) and Cassiar Gold (GLDC) as two stocks that Doc is constructive on for 2022.

Next we shift over to the energy sector, starting off with macro comments on the oil, natural gas, and the related resource stocks. We highlight NG Energy (GASX) as a company Doc Jones likes for nat gas development and growing production.   Lastly we wrap up with the battery metals part of the energy sector, with a focus on the copper, zinc, and silver deposits that Emerita Resources (EMO) continues to explore and de-risk for further growth.

    As Good As It Gets
    .
    By Monica Kingsley / December 27, 2021
    .
“S&P 500 and risk-on assets continued rallying, pausing only before the close. Santa Claus delivered, and the final trading week of 2021 is here. With the dollar pausing and VIX at 18 again, we‘re certainly enjoying better days while clouds gather on the horizon – Thursday‘s inability of financials to keep intraday gains while yields rose, is but one albeit short-term sign. The Fed is still accomodative (just see the balance sheet expansion for Dec – this is really tapering), didn‘t get into the headlines with fresh hawkish statements, and inflation expectations keep rising from subdued levels.”

“Importantly, bonds prices aren‘t taking it on the chin, and the dollar hasn‘t made much progress since late Nov. Both tech and value are challenging their recent highs, and the ratio of stocks trading above their 200-day moving average, is improving. The same for new highs new lows – the market breadth indicators are picking up. We haven‘t seen the stock market top yet – the rickety ride higher isn‘t over, Santa Claus rally goes on, and my 2022 outlook with targets discussed that a week ago.”

“Precious metals are extending gains, and aren‘t yet raging ahead – the picture is one of welcome strength returning across the board. The same goes for crude oil finally rising solidly above $72 as the omicron fears are receding in light of fresh incoming data including South African policies. It‘s only copper that‘s now reflecting the prospects of real economy slowdown. At the same time, the crypto rebound last week served as a confirmation of broad risk-on advance.”

“Let‘s move right into the charts…”

Cory, Shad and Doc Jones: hard to beat at this time of year. Thanks to all. Great professional discussion as usual. Looking forward to 2022.

Volcanic (a Doc stock and Ex possession) had a good day today by my “Schwab price” of +26%. Not sure if that was right but we have to see what Canada does when they return Wednesday.

        Dec 27, 2021 27:41 PM

Thanks Lakedweller2. Yes, Simon and the Volcanic Gold team seem to be onto a new discovery there in Guatemala, and I believe we’ll see more interesting assays as they keep coming back in.

    Dec 27, 2021 27:00 PM

Well I just added more names to my buy list. Lol…….that cgx energy I was told about just over a week ago but had no time to look at it. What a tax loss recovery run that’s had already and now heading into new year with drilling going on. Damn. Add it to the missed it and bitter not buying now list. 🙄

      Dec 27, 2021 27:16 PM

NG Energy moving and close to production…a Doc stock.

        Dec 27, 2021 27:34 PM

Yes I listened to the interview….,cgx was also mentioned by Doc in this interview and is a high flyer that he really likes purely for its potential to skyrocket.

          Dec 27, 2021 27:45 PM

Yeah, Doc Jones threw that CGX Energy in there as a bonus speculative pick, and I was curious to learn more, and noticed it had already had a big rally since he started discussing it over at ceo.ca. As for NG Energy, I had a nice speculative position in it that popped up higher so I took the gain, but I’m watching for any weakness to buy back in, as the company has a big development pipeline of wells that will be coming online in the next 12 months+ that should be quite transformative. A good way to get leverage to Nat Gas prices as well.

            Dec 27, 2021 27:50 PM

Wolfster – what are your thoughts on the pot stocks after the large correction they’ve been in all year long. I was adding more to the ETF (POTX) lately, but was looking at a half dozen individual names that are off 50%-90% off their highs. Many were in the stratosphere and grossly overvalued in the past, but still many have made acquisitions, grown their distribution network, and are more financially sound today then they were during the mania periods, so this sell down is looking more and more attractive to me. What say you sir?

            Dec 28, 2021 28:58 AM

Definitely qualifies as a contrarian candidate at this point….so hard to judge where the real money will be made. Here in Canada they have allowed so many retail stores that its hard to imagine how any are truly profitable…the ones that I still consider potentially the big winners are the large MSO’s still and Planet13 in the US….outside of the US I still have some hope for IMCC which has been slowly acquiring the necessary distribution channels in Israel and Germany…..other than that I have no interest…..the commodities are just too appealing right now especially uranium and PM’s…..and accumulating Doc Jones picks as I marvel at his narrowing selection process that weeds out everything and has solid track record as a result

    Dec 27, 2021 27:30 PM

Wall Street leadership is mostly in the Hamptons or the French Riviera. The “wanta bees” have been left in charge. We may have a good end of year due to limited intervention and loss sales done. Canada closed for two days so OTC probably sucking us in for an alternating day smash or some kind of neutralizing activity that only they know in advance. I am hopeful but cautious…but whatever happens it will favor the bullion banks. Just my “downer” thoughts. Criminals do not stop being criminals until it is not rewarded. Nothing says they won’t continue to be rewarded.

AR and IAG have p/b ratio much less than one. Any others come in that low?

      Dec 28, 2021 28:02 AM

As I mentioned plenty of times before terry, my biggest holding remains iamgold and it has always been one of if not the first out of the gates when it comes to a “ long term” fundamental bottom. It’s simple and classic and it’s no different this time around.

I watched recently a video of 4 of the top mining giants in the business including Peter schiff, Rick rule and two others. Rick rule mentioned this few months back that the mid tier/mid cap to slightly large cap would lead the way and those would be the best leverage including there dividend in the current times. We in here obviously know the small or speculative move later which is already happening.

My point is with almost 750 million cash on hand a position that leaves them as possible purchasers of which they have a history of doing and strong backing of institutions and funds they are well aligned.

Here is what they have going for them.

      1. Strong management team imo
      2. 750 million cash on hand
      3. A very respectable 460-480 million shares outstanding
      4. Current output of 615,000 millions ounces of gold per year
      5. Price to book= outstanding imo

The market clearly has shown its feelings towards iamgold and it has been on a great run as of late. Really showing its strength coming into the new year turn. This puts iamgold into the drivers pole position with its new mine “Cote” project ready to commence production in one of the most safest countries in the world . Considered by its peers to be very low cash cost for production. Cote is going to take iamgold back to we’re it was years back and into that large cap boarder line production company. At an annual estimates and conservative 315,000 ounces per year that would put iamgold around 920,000 ounces of production per year in 12-18 months from now. We all know we’re gold is going to be so you do the math. This is a no brainer imo and will be a big winner. I also expect from pass tradition that a possible dividends structure unless they decide to purchase another producer with there 750,000 then iamgold could be a 1.2/1.3 million ounce producers by 2023/2025

        Dec 28, 2021 28:25 AM

So Glenfidish, you think IAG would be Floyd Odlum’s pick of the PM miners.

          Dec 28, 2021 28:27 AM

          Hi Terry,

It could well possibly be but I’m sure there are other plays just as strong that could out perform. From my perspective I just know how iamgold trades and it’s tendencies because I’ve been with it for so long. This does not
Imply that pass performance will be the same in the future but I like to play those odds and feel comfortably doing it until I see something that changes.

As Matthew would say or use in his point figure chart, I have iamgold and most miners going to previous highs but one move at a time.

In conclusion i think the price we pay today would pay a huge premium and upside regardless of if we did head slightly lower. The price we pay today is an insurance policy of what’s coming and when the massive crowd figures this out, I have no doubt the ones who did not enter here under fear will be the ones chasing and pushing those premiums higher.

        Dec 28, 2021 28:34 AM

Nice summary Glen……getting into Ex territory with the length.lol

Like the stealth like movement of gold and how it’s moving while many on holidays.

From my lenses we will be attacking 1828-1832 region somwhere around there give or take.

I’m expecting some miners to make big movements possibly out of the gates tomorrow on the tsx exchange. Maybe a quick pop pup to end the monthly candle in a good position then a quick take down but a “ buy the dip” scenario imo not investment advice.

We are in a buy the dip or correction imo and the pastures look good and the runway is aligning itself. Gold will have its time shortly and so will these miners

      Dec 28, 2021 28:46 PM

David, I think you should forget about what these resource stocks trade for when The CDN Market is closed, it just isn’t relevant. DT

        Dec 28, 2021 28:52 PM

Yes, that’s very true for the TSX Venture exchange listed entities.

        Dec 28, 2021 28:22 PM

Yeah…I know everything will reset to whatever happens on the Canadian. I just like to state displeasure when stuff seems corrupt. Can’t ever fix it if it is accepted. US is corrupt across all markets. I write politicians on a regular basis to let them know that they suck.
One of the things you can do is trade at the OTC prices while Canada is closed and that can matter.
