It may prove unwise to have shipped the planeloads of US citizens back to this country…………especially those from the cruise ship in Japan, who has really bungled the handling of the virus threat in their jurisdiction!
Carnival Cruise Lines, owner of both cruise ships held in Asia, was informed it must foll World Health Organization rules and Regulations. Unfortunately the WHO had been hit with a novel virus and used out-dated rules, for essentially a virus with unknown transmission.
In hindsight, it is now recognized covid-19 is capable of asymptomatic infection by both contact and by aerosol forms. Other than total isolation for extended times, I don’t think it will be possible to contain this pandemic.
Regrettably, that is not the most frightening thing.
There are too many videos coming out of China of people simply keeling over and dropping dead. If this is due to re-infection and a subsequent massive cytokine storm human survival on this planet could be in jeopardy.
The possibly good news is that the virus seems to have genomic variation in its lethality, so certain races may survive.

I’m not an M.D., but it does not look to me that this patient had a chance of being saved.
Breathing 100% oxygen and just not able to oxygenate his blood sufficiently.
(essentially drowned by his body’s response to the virus.)
His life could have been prolonged by external blood oxygenation, but the damage to his lung does not appear reversible.
