Oil did not collapse to “gold standard levels” genius. Lol, you think credit cycles don’t exist on a gold standard. Do you actually believe that oil would stay at one price under a gold standard? If so, you’re as special as I thought you were.
Economic/credit cycles are a fact of life even on a gold standard. Every sector of the economy will always experience swings in their respective valuations and that is a fact. The difference is that those swings would tend to be less dramatic most of the time.
The extreme low that oil reached relative to gold in the 1930s was primarily because the economy collapsed. The same goes for all other commodities.
Stocks were recently overvalued relative to gold but it was at a very similar valuation in 1929 and a much greater valuation in 1966 and the dollar was pegged to gold in both cases. But that is not why stocks are falling now or why they fell then.
Far more important is the fact they they had become very expensive relative to earnings at a time when the consumer was carrying all the debt he could manage.
There is so much to add but it won’t change that you’re an uninterested bonehead so I’ll leave it at that.
