Richard “Doc” Postma and Shad Discuss Gold, Fed Policy, and 4 Mining Stocks Fundamentals And Technicals

Shad Marquitz
December 15, 2021

Richard “Doc” Postma joins Shad to discuss the precious metals sector, and then the conversation transitions to 4 mining stocks that they like to trade based on fundamentals and technical set ups.

We start by getting Docs thoughts on the technical set up in both gold and silver for the short and medium term.  Next we pivot over to 4 of the more liquid mining stocks, where Shad lays out some fundamental reasons he likes each company, and Doc reviews the both the short-term and longer-term set up in each of the charts.*

*This is not financial advice or recommendations for investing, this is just 2 guys, Doc & Shad, talking about stocks and is for entertainment purposes only.

>  Please let us know if you like this kind of format and would like to hear segments like this again.

  • McEwen Mining (TSX: MUX – NYSE: MUX)
  • Silvercorp Metals (TSX: SVM – NYSE: SVM)

    Great interview and discussion…again.
In anticipation that The Fed would get rid of the word “transitory” concerning inflation, I decided to liquidate my Great Bear holdings before Powell spoke and take the gains this year. I rolled it into Emerita in anticipation of possible news any day now before the end of the year. Whereas, it was unlikely that Great Bear would receive any significant news in the near term as many feel the Kinross offer reflects current value.
I also expected that the futures for the metals would respond to Powell on the upside and although there was a positive response during and after his remarks there was still some capping on miners.
However, I think the next couple of days will be better for the miners because I don’t know how much worse things can get for the Fed and the ponzi scheme.
Anyway, Emerita has performed contrary to the sector for 2021, so I am expecting 2022 to be a good year too because of the potentially good explorer/developmental news that may happen. Just my 2 cents worth which is now worth about 1 cent due to transitory inflation,

Thanks Lakedweller2, and that seems like a sensible trading strategy, and yes, you’ve done quite well in both Great Bear and Emerita in 2021. May your trading be very prosperous in 2022!

        Dec 16, 2021 16:47 AM

Thanks Ex for your kind comments and wisdom over the last couple of years. They have both been good for me and I am slowly learning a few things and I thank you and appreciate all your efforts to help us all. You are having an impact for all that work. Hope every trade for you in 2022 is good one.

        Dec 16, 2021 16:07 AM

There is a note floating around out there that basically thanks Ex for his outstanding contributions that I have personally benefitted from over the last couple of years. I probably messed up the address stuff again.
Bottom Line: a ton thanks Ex for sharing your knowledge. All that hard work really matters to the readers of this site.

          Dec 16, 2021 16:16 AM

Much appreciated Lakedweller2 and right back at you sir. I appreciate all the quality contributions from the KER crew here on the blog and from guests on the show, and definitely found value in Doc Postma sharing all his technical insights with us here on the precious metals and mining stocks here in this podcast discussion. Ever Upward!

Doc is an institution and that is a good thing.

            Dec 16, 2021 16:10 PM

Doc should take us all out for a party at his place on his dime! LOL! DT

            Dec 16, 2021 16:08 PM

Sounds like a real hoot DT, especially if Doc is bankrolling it. He stated he is 82% in cash, so aren’t we a great investment? 🤑😆

            Dec 16, 2021 16:36 PM

So much for ever hearing from Doc again.

Ex, it may trip up to 4.20, and CDE maybe to 6.20.
If so, then doc’s prognosis could come to pass.
Sector saturation should then give us a clue.

Uranium plays have become rinse and repeat. Buy oversold on short term and sell again within 3 days.

The swing down likely concluded began on November 9th.

      Dec 16, 2021 16:43 AM

Agreed Wolfster. The Uranium stocks have been a great trade every few days-weeks for the last few months.

    Dec 16, 2021 16:21 AM

They are using November algos which are old school. Some things never change. Next time they will use Stanford grads instead of MIT to develop algos.

I went from a large gain to negative in a couple hours and the commodity prices are going great but not the commodities. Someone’s thumbs need breaking…

    Dec 16, 2021 16:56 PM

    I nibbled y’day at HL – 200 @ $4.66 ( low year to date)
    250 @ $4.50 ( low for the day)

      Dec 16, 2021 16:17 PM

Ex, Great synopsis on SVM, ITS BACK ON MY RADAR

        Dec 16, 2021 16:05 PM

Much appreciated Marty. Yep, SVM is looking pretty solid for the medium to longer term, and I’m particularly interested in all these new strategic positions they have in place in about 5 Jr Miners in South America and Mexico. Maybe they buy one of them in the next year or so?

    1. Yes
    2. Yes

Lol…thx Shad & Doc. Notwithstanding fear-of-missing-out, HL and others do look weak on the daily, although there is fairly strong medium term support based June & Oct 2020, the latter noted by Doc. Is it worth riding-out any downturn in mining stocks in Jan 2022 (or whenever the eventual crash occurs)? Market-timing is a tough biz. Here we are 1 day later after the interview and silver is up 4%. I am raising cash, but I’m not sure I would be at 82%…maybe 50-60%…you know, just in case silver/gold rally. It’s not a strong TA pattern, but fundamentally a spring is coiling for both.

      Dec 16, 2021 16:42 PM

Thanks for that feedback John. Yes, very interesting to see the bounce in the metals since the FOMC, and after the bearish calls by many. That’s what makes a market though.

      Jerry,

Thank you for the video! It’s heartbreaking to say the least that such mankind exist. It’s
Courageously aspiring to know we have such great leaders still out there like this gentleman. All we can do is continue to spread the word add an alarming rate which I will do.

    Dec 20, 2021 20:26 AM

What a load of poppycock… I wouldn’t place much emphasis on the technical analysis of thinly traded stocks like Maverix metals during tax loss season. There is a counter cyclical bent to royalties companies that makes it highly unlikely they would follow other precious metals stocks in to the toilet. If you don’t buy down here you will miss the sale.
