A Focus on Oil and Reasons to be Optimistic for 2018

October 31, 2017

The Gold and Oil Guy, Chris Vermeulen, joins me today to focus on the oil sector and a few indicators he is watching that are signaling an eventual market top. For crude, it is very close to some strong resistance which is made more significant by the face that we are at the end of the month and a busy news week. US equity wise we discuss the extreme complacency and look at how the TSX has performed compared to US equity markets.

XOP closed just above the 200 day average finally. It has been under performing oil for quite some time. I have reduced my position by but still holding a huge position that I have built up the past few weeks.

Thousands attended protest organized by Russians on Facebook

Thousands of Americans attended a march last November organized by a Russian group that used social media to interfere in the 2016 election.

The demonstration in New York City, which took place a few days after the election, appears to be the largest and most successful known effort to date pulled off by Russian-linked groups intent on using social media platforms to influence American politics.

Sixteen thousand Facebook users said that they planned to attend a Trump protest on Nov. 12, 2016, organized by the Facebook page for BlackMattersUS, a Russian-linked group that sought to capitalize on racial tensions between black and white Americans. The event was shared with 61,000 users.

I can see oil correcting to as low as $52 for the last time and then back to break $55. I sold most of my big position in the aftermarket.

    Oct 31, 2017 31:45 PM

I agree, but most people do not want to pay taxes on their huge gains for 2017. My prediction…2018 is when they will cash out. The 10% “rich” are controlling this stock market. They have Mr. Trump’s back. The 10% rich have nearly 80% of wealth in the world, so I may be wrong. I would never buy a hassle electric car and attract attention that I am wealthy(if I was the 1%). That is why hold HFC. And an inflation protection…WPM. Bitcoin is a tulip bulb. As a Roman Catholic…God Bless.

      Nov 01, 2017 01:54 AM

How many people have posted here that Bitcoin is a Tulip Bulb?
How many people here are still posting Bitcoin is a Tulip Bulb.
If Bitcoin was a Tulip Bulb, the most expensive Tulip Bulb would be valued at today’s prices at 67.1 million dollars.
I can tell you are another that failed to see the revolution that Bitcoin is.
Perhaps with your vast knowledge of the Crypto space you would care to comment on the 1,234 other Crypto Currencies.
Next time you should try “I think Bitcoin is a Tulip Bulb.”
Bitcoin is just getting started my friend. You may now join the long list of people who have posted the same thing and continue to be wrong on a daily basis.
Take a look at the advancement of the cell phone and the money made there.
Of course you missed that to.

Cryptos have been the place to be now, for years actually.

The bubble argument could be made but in Canadian bitcoin has gone from $3 to over $8000. Not a bad bull to ride.

I know I was in your neck of the woods.I just wanted to bring home the point I made yesterday.
Another salient point that many are missing are the massive inflows of Capital into the Crypto and Blockchain space.
This is taking a toll on the precious metals and I would not expect a change anytime soon.

I still say Silver is a bargain at these prices. You might have to hold for a little while, but I think it will be well worth your while.

            Nov 01, 2017 01:24 AM

John, I would agree with you on silver……..I still hold silver in different forms…….my most favorite are Morgan Silver dollars……been a good investment since the 60’s for me anyway…..they just keep going up…….

Looking pretty good with the Palladium I bought in 2016 also.
            Thanks Mr Moriarty.

Agree Jerry on the Morgans. Swiss America kept hounding me so I finally purchased some Morgan Rolls.Buried them and left the kids a map.

            Nov 01, 2017 01:33 AM

Palladium certainly has had a good run up……I am surprised that it went past platinum ……I still like platinum

JohnK, you are clueless AND irrational. There is no telling how high BC might go before it cracks but it is a CLASSIC mania/bubble. You idiotically think that a new high is an argument for your side. It isn’t.

            Nov 01, 2017 01:23 AM

The new high is the last thing I use to confirm that Bitcoin has evolved to what it is.
Have you not been paying attention to all of my posts?
Once again Mathew. This is all your getting from me.

      Nov 01, 2017 01:39 AM

Still, Baby George’s carelessness about the exact dates and sequences of utterly irrelevant and inconsequential events is enough to get him time in one of Uncle Sam’s hospitality suites:

Defendant PAPADOPOULOS acknowledged that the professor had told him about the Russians possessing “dirt” on then-candidate Hillary Clinton in the forms of “thousands of emails”, but stated multiple times that he learned the information prior to joining the Campaign. In truth and fact, however, defendant PAPADOPOULOS learned he would be an advisor to the campaign in early March, and met the professor on or about March 14, 2016……
That’s all she wrote. This damning nugget appears on page 2 of the “Statement of Offense” and the balance of the 14 pages is a complete farcical joke. Papadopoulos’ failure to get anywhere with the Russians in his digging for dirt on Hillary would make for a worthy episode starring the rascals of South Park, but that’s about all.

        Nov 01, 2017 01:49 AM

        Is this guy kidding?

If there is any evidence of Russia meddling or of hacking the Podesta and DNC emails, it lies right there in the massive NSA server farms which capture all incoming communications to the US and outgoing, too. It is retrievable in an instant, but hasn’t been because it’s not there.

We didn’t need Mueller’s bully boys to bushwhack Baby George to find that out.

Then again, if you don’t recognize that the Deep State and its minions in the press and both party establishments in Washington are pushing the nation to an extra-constitutional removal of a sitting President, you simply aren’t paying attention.

So at least stay out of the casino. That’s where the temblors will hit first.
