Ed Moya – Are We Witnessing A Bull Trap Or A New Bull Market In US Equity Markets And The Cryptos?

Ed Moya, Senior Market Analyst at OANDA, joins us to review how US equity markets, bonds, the US dollar, and cryptos pushed off from the gate, after a long 3 day holiday weekend.  Key considerations have been around what the central bank messaging from the People’s Bank Of China and the Fed is causing to economic expectations.   We review the larger question of if this recent broader equity participation and more speculative funds coming into the general equities markets and cryptocurrencies are just going to be a bull trap that catches retail investors piling in and holding the bag, or if we are seeing legitimate signs of a new bull market developing.

Ed points out that typically when we see retail investors jumping on a trend late in the game, that it could signal an overbought period lining up for a corrective move.  Another topic of discussion is around whether the nature of participation in the markets has changed in light of the fixed income markets being far less risky while still providing a respectable yield.  We wrap up with getting Ed’s thoughts on what key data is moving the needle in the cryptocurrencies.

I’m beginning to think more and more traders are beginning to take David Hunter and his thoughts much more seriously. He’s been saying about the same thing for at least 15 months about a ‘meltup’ and then a ‘bust’. There’s nothing strange about his forecast IMO. Only his projected levels like 6000 for the S&P seem a bit over-stated for some. I’m thinking though, more and more are beginning to think it may happen and even though they’re probably not positioned for such an outcome, the idea is still in the back of their mind and they would love to perfectly time such an event. I guess what I’m saying is that his thoughts aren’t as crazy today as they seemed a year ago. His latest interview was just on Kitco: https://www.kitco.com/news/video/show/Market-Analysis/4547/2023-06-19/Markets-will-melt-up-36-before-global-bust—David Hunter#_48_INSTANCE_puYLh9Vd66QY_=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kitco.com%2Fnews%2Fvideo%2Flatest%3Fshow%3DMarket-Analysis

Whether this is a new bull market or not (I still bet “not”) a correction is coming very soon if one hasn’t begun already.

chart looks convincing thank you!…I wonder how often in your method Matthew, that tops occur midway between forks…I see a pivot at 445 area if i remember…..

Tops/bottoms often occur midway even when a fork happens to be “as good as it gets” legit (fork quality/utility does vary no matter how properly they’re chosen and applied). I make-do with stockcharts but there are far superior programs out there that automatically show the midway line and even parallel lines outside the fork in addition to many fork styles that stockcharts doesn’t offer.

Thank you Matthew….I stick w Think or Swim because I am not ready to face a transition to an other platform….I have some tech phobia….and I am not readily flexible…Had some real horrible early computer experiences and I dread the changes that most/many could care less…I am trading more futures lately and TorS can be off on data in serious ways…Thanks

You’re welcome Larry. I’m in the same boat with StockCharts. I have no desire to quit using it but should supplement it with one of its competitors. I also should spend more time on StockChartsACP. I know I’m missing out.

Yes this Plomosas property looks encouraging, especially with its exploration potential.

I can’t think of a better company to take over that project than IPT. The two are a perfect match.
