The week begins on an Up-Note.
When you think of how China is using AI to make electronic items cheaper, one of my sons bought a handheld gaming system that is about the size of a cell phone and twice as thick that holds 15,000 computer games for $90 CDN. If you apply that sort of technology to military weapons systems or anything for that matter well, need I say anymore. DT
The Short Case for Nvidia Stock

“One of the great myths of the Dot.com Bubble was that Internet traffic was doubling every three months. It was still growing 100% every year, but not 1,000%. This miscalculation had huge implications for telecom capex going forward.”
And that’s why I’m not invested in the sector….read the whole thing. Sounds insightful for those who get it. Reaffirms that I have no clue or understanding of the sector. I said many times in the past I can’t say anything about Nvidia valuation cuz I don’t understand it. Never will.
The tariffs for Canada are now slated to start on Tuesday. I think the system needed a re-set from the way we have been living for a long time. Inflation is about to become a big menace again.
Hedge Funds bet billions on a Market Crash! I don’t like it when a lot of money is saying we are headed for a market crash. That makes me nervous from a contrarian point of view. But it also seems that there is no way out of this impending disaster without a market CRASH! DT 😒

Is that the smart money or the dumb money?
Where do you put your money—-Europe? Asia? The only thing Trump may do to cause a sustained crash is weaken the USD or let congress do it through unsustainable spending. Maybe your right.
Consider trading Natural Gas ETFs. Even ‘calm’ times can produce 5% gains over a day or two.
Going to be interesting going forward…. on the tariffs…..

Every new administration in Washington usually begins in an atmosphere of expecting good will, but in this case, we are seeing a winter of discontent. Trump has set his sights on turning America around and reversing the decline. A very tall order that requires an autocrat to make decisions that are necessary but make most people feel uncomfortable. Instead of throwing the gates open he has to keep them locked and guarded with sentries because he has been a target, and he knows he still is. DT
Trump imposes tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico. Trump also said that if these three countries retaliate then he will increase the tariffs. 25% on Canada and Mexico with Canadian oil and gas seeing a 10% increase. China gets a 10% increase across the board. DT
Mexico has announced retaliatory tariffs against the United States.
Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo @Claudiashein – X/Twitter
>> TRANSLATION:
“We categorically reject the White House’s slander against the Mexican government of having alliances with criminal organizations, as well as any intention of intervention in our territory.
If such an alliance exists anywhere, it is in the United States armories that sell high-powered weapons to these criminal groups, as demonstrated by the United States Department of Justice itself in January of this year.
In four months, our government has seized more than 40 tons of drugs, including 20 million doses of fentanyl. It has also arrested more than ten thousand people linked to these groups.
If the United States government and its agencies wanted to address the serious consumption of fentanyl in their country, they could, for example, combat the sale of narcotics on the streets of their main cities, which they do not do, and the money laundering generated by this illegal activity that has done so much harm to their population.
They could also start a massive campaign to prevent the consumption of these drugs and take care of their young people, as we have done in Mexico. Drug consumption and distribution is in their country and that is a public health problem that they have not addressed. In addition, the synthetic opioid epidemic in the United States has its origin in the indiscriminate prescription of drugs of this type, authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as demonstrated by the lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company.
Mexico does not want confrontation. We start from collaboration between neighboring countries. Mexico not only does not want fentanyl to reach the United States, but anywhere. Therefore, if the United States wants to combat criminal groups that traffic drugs and generate violence, we must work together in an integrated manner, but always under the principles of shared responsibility, mutual trust, collaboration and, above all, respect for sovereignty, which is not negotiable. Coordination, yes; subordination, no.
To this end, I propose to President Trump that we establish a working group with our best public health and security teams.
Problems are not resolved by imposing tariffs, but by talking and dialoguing, as we did in recent weeks with your State Department to address the phenomenon of migration; in our case, with respect for human rights.
The graph that President Trump has been posting on social media about the decline in migration was created by my team, which has been in constant communication with his.
I instruct the Secretary of Economy to implement Plan B that we have been working on, which includes tariff and non-tariff measures in defense of Mexico’s interests.
Nothing by force; everything by reason and right.”
Trudeau announces 25 per cent retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods starting Tuesday
By John Marchesan – City News – February 1, 2025
“Canada will impose 25 per cent immediate retaliatory tariffs on American goods worth $30 billion starting Tuesday in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to slap Canada with similar devastating duties.”
“Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said an additional $125 billion in duties on American products will follow in 21 days, allowing Canadian consumers and supply chains to find alternatives.”
“Trudeau’s announcement comes just hours after Trump slapped Canada with 25 per cent tariffs on all goods and 10 per cent tariffs on oil, natural gas and electricity, also scheduled to take effect on Tuesday.”
And thus…. The Trade Wars have begun…
Hello inflation…. So nice to have you back again… (sarc)

Haven’t been in Stillwater for some time but do still have it on my watchlist. That was unusually high volume for it on Friday and price has gotten cheap considering price of PGM’s and what they have in the ground
For the first I’ve started to accumulate Stillwater.
Well you were certainly a big buyer based on the uptick in volume. 😉

We live in an age where it’s all about ME! ME! ME! and ME! You can’t negotiate anything if you don’t look around beyond your own beliefs and needs. America used to be the arbitrator to settle disputes between other countries but that was 100 hundred years ago, when most of The World looked at them as the model to follow. LOL! DT

Lloyd Blankfein, former Goldman CEO, claiming they were doing God’s work.
This from the article above from Mexico … If the American Govt. were to act this way, then perhapts they would have more friends , than enemys around the world.
Agreed IrishT. Claudia’s response back was far more practical, measured, collaborative, and had the tone of neighbors working together in synergy.
It would be far better for North Anerican citizens if Canada, the United States, and Mexico were not in a tit for tat trade war, levying tariffs on one another, because that will just lead to higher prices on everything, and hurt everyday people.
Instead it would be so much more productive to harness the resource strengths of all 3 countries. Canada has vast mineral, many metals, and heavy oil wealth. The US has light oil and nat gas wealth, and is a global hub for technology. Mexico has the silver, but also a younger demographic for a workforce that could be deployed as a manufacturing hub.
Mexico could help as near-shoring or friend-shoring manufactured goods, displacing our dependence on China. US could share their technology strength with Mexico in exchange for cheap manufactured goods, and Canada could supply the raw materials needed in the supply chain. All three countries could shine, playing to their strengths, and there would be plenty of jobs created. It would be so easy to build a trading block between the 3 countries that is a win-win-win for everyone.
Hello EX . I totally agree , but it would appear the US lacks logic & commonsence when it comes to dealing with the rest of the World . They see the rest of the World as enemys , rather than potental friends. I fear America is suffering from end of Empire Syndrome . Take away their dollar weapon , & they stand alone.
Yes, as an American, it is hard to watch happen, as I’d much rather seen an innovative approach to mutually beneficial trade and working relations with other countries, versus a combative posture of threats and retaliation. That is rarely a good approach on the individual person or national level, and is what leads to war and conflict, versus alliances and brotherhood.
It’s unlikely to change though. Yes, I’d agree that the US has misused its global reserve currency and banking system as a weapon and big stick to bully the rest of the world, and that tends to build resentment and isolation… not friends. It could be much different, and while I’m always rooting for the best policies to be adopted, I’m also a realist and am prepared for poor policies to be implemented.
Hi Ex, In The case of Mexico Trump would like to have better relations but Mexico has a huge problem with the gangs. They can’t accomplish what Bukele did in El Salvador Mexico is just too entrenched and populous. DT
Agreed DT. On a local level, many Mexican politicians have to partner with the gangs and cartels because their lives and family’s lives depend on it. However on a federal level, Claudia mentioned what they had been doing, and Trump and the media give them little credit for it.
“In four months, our government has seized more than 40 tons of drugs, including 20 million doses of fentanyl. It has also arrested more than ten thousand people linked to these groups.”
Additionally, I agree with the points she made about what could be done domestically in the US, with awareness, education, and treating it like the public health issue it is (more so than just a crime issue). It is also something where Big Pharma is to blame for doling out very addictive chemicals like candy, and then acts blameless in the closet issues we are seeing inside of so many families post medical treatment.
She pointed out a good recommendation to the US:
“They could also start a massive campaign to prevent the consumption of these drugs and take care of their young people, as we have done in Mexico. Drug consumption and distribution is in their country and that is a public health problem that they have not addressed. In addition, the synthetic opioid epidemic in the United States has its origin in the indiscriminate prescription of drugs of this type, authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as demonstrated by the lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company.”

You don’t need to know anything about buying or selling stock other than Buy Low Sell High. Nvidia is definitely in a bubble, but the herd needs to feel the pain. The herd mentality never changes whether its 1700 or now. DT
“DeepSeek” has the potential to turn Nvidia into “FARTCOIN” next week if Nvidia doesn’t mount a rally it will be a new version of a deflated “FARTCOIN! LOL! DT🤣🤣🤣

Trump says Canada will cease to exist, we need an election to elect a new leader, but Trudeau has pro-rogued our country while The Liberals fight over leadership. The crash is coming very soon with no economy and rampant inflation on top of unimaginable debts the honeycomb will start to collapse on both sides of the border. DT
