Welcome!

Weekend Show – Rick Bensingor, Dana Lyons and Mike Larson – How To Trade A Sideways Market and Recession Fears

Cory
April 22, 2023

Welcome to the Weekend Edition of the KE Report! It was another sideways week for markets but this has been the case the whole month of April and could go on for months longer. That doesn’t mean there isn’t opportunity to make money, you just need to be more selective. The focus for this Weekend’s Show is on investing strategies for flat markets keeping in mind the fear of recession in the second half of the year.

The guests this week are, in my opinion, some of the most accurate generalist traders we have on the show. These guys have been correct a lot over the bull and bear markets.

Please keep in touch with Shad and I through email. We love hearing your thoughts on the markets, our guests and the companies we feature throughout the week. Our emails addresses are Fleck@kereport.com and Shad@kereport.com.

It’s possible that the next significant pull back
for NEM will be from the $100 area.

      Apr 22, 2023 22:25 AM

I sure hope you are right, but how high would NEM go when gold is at 5K or 8K? Although I did not buy NEM it has become my biggest holding since it took over the old FNV, GG, and now Newcrest.
Pierre Lassonde says that as NEM is the only gold stock in the S&P 500, it will be the first one the big funds go to in a raging gold bull market Let it be. I would love to sell my NEM@ 1000/share.

Normally I like Mike Larson’s opinion but I wouldn’t follow him now into tech, energy, and consumer staples. Much better prices ahead in these sectors after we get into the recession which we’ll see by July-August. Few analysts can compete with the system of Hedgeye. Banks (regional) are headed for some real problems. Classic problem. Borrowed short (cheap deposits) and loaned long, primarily in corporate
real estate. Then rates up 500% in the last year and they’re in trouble.
Follow Mike at your own risk. JMO

I don’t know Hedgeye but agree with the rest of your comment completely.

Hunter is a nut. 7000 SnP in 5 months. He has been talking melt up for 4 years, how is that working ?

I like what I got in the portfolio and it’s content has changed over the last 15 months with still explorers but more depth of known resources as price has dropped. I also have more balanced share structure with Emo and I-80 being about 10% each being the largest concentrations. I have gold, silver, lithium, copper, zinc, oil , uranium, platinum, nickel, palladium, tellurium, tin, cancer bio and combinations of all. I have been able to move almost 50% to Canadian and Australian symbols with the remainder in the OTC. I have half in Schwab and half in IBKR and after about a month in IBKR I find the Schwab site easier to navigate and IBKR more restrictive and controlling. “Experts” seem to advise that brokerage assets are compartmentalized where as banking assets are lumped and pose more risk. Schwab came out with a discussion that they may separate the two into independent functioning bodies due to concern over banking losses. (Glass Stegall) Great idea if they are serious and could reduce corruption issues in the industry. I suggest they also install “Fiduciary Duty” as that would be a novel concept for brokerage firms also. (Deja vue).

As mentioned previously, I opened an account with Fidelity and they refused to transfer “penny stocks” including I-80 and Eloro. They did suggest that I sell everything in my Schwab account and transfer my cash to them. They would not guarantee I could buy back any of the stocks I previously owned including I-80, which is on the AMEX.

I have subsequently run into 3 miner penny stocks where Fidelity bought 9.9% ownership (I failed to write them down). If I came across those 3, I assume there are more. As a result, I have a Fidelity account with nothing in it.

It’s hard to know what to do these days, at the highest levels we are faced with a lack of foresight, lack of leadership, and a lack of elementary common sense. Not just in your country but also in mine.

There is a rush by government to lead business and industry into paths where they have little to no experience. Investing has become more of a “Mugs” game than ever before. This has led to a major change in the national economy.

I see change all around me but it is the kind of change that is being brought about by an oversized and overzealous bureaucracy that knows almost nothing of how the business cycle works.

There has to be a force that will come back to bring about a business revival, nothing is more important than that. DT

Hard to tell if incomprtence or an agenda that is well planned. I think the latter is the more likely scenario which makes retail a bunch of pawns.
